Moon Knight

Issue #9

Written by Brian Michael Bendis, Art by Alex Maleev

Published: March 2012

Okay here we are at the pinnacle moment of this series; it is make or break time and either Bendis is going to wow me or it will all come crashing down in a stinking pile of comic dredge.

Happily I report that Brian Bendis earned an “A” from me for this book! This issue seriously brought everything together perfectly. First we have some well used flashbacks to explain how MK has his cool new gadgets and also get some solid interaction with Buck. I thought this was paramount to answer those questions before going forward. From there we get a very good split personality battle between Moon Knight and Count Nefaria.

The combination of plot, dialogue, and really great art from Alex Maleev sells the whole package. We have fluid action scenes and small details that really make the overall book fantastic. They way he switches from one personality to the next is portrayed brilliantly so each character is just a little different in mannerisms. Even though Nefaria has battled Thor, Bendis makes it conceivable that with his toys; Moon Knight can stand up to him. Then we end with a bang and not a whimper with a very unexpected twist. I am not sure if I can say anything more to convey how stoked I was reading this book.

Overall I have really enjoyed this Moon Knight run. Now I have to remain hopeful that Bendis and Maleev want to do more as typically MK seems to have a short shelf life. If it does end up being just a mini-series then I am glad that I read it, but I for one am a fan that is clamoring for more.
