Marvel Heroes set to debut at Comic-Con in July

Marvel Entertainment’s answer to Sony Online Entertainment’s popular DC Universe Online will debut this summer at Comic-Con.

The game developed by Gazillion Entertainment, founded by Diablo creator David Brevik, will allow players to engage with the Marvel Universe one-on-one in a massively multiplayer online environment.

“I’ve been a big Marvel fan for all of my life … Marvel Heroes represents the combination of Marvel IP with all of the knowledge and experience I gained creating Diablo,” Brevik said.

The big difference between Marvel Heroes and DC’s MMO will be the player character experience, according to Gazillion.

While DC Universe Online requires players to create their own superheroes who then have an option of interacting with classic DC characters, Marvel Heroes will allow players to actually become classic Marvel characters and lead them through the game’s twists and turns.

The story behind Marvel Heroes will similarly remain closely tied to the comic book universe. Penned and overseen by Marvel scribe Brian Michael Bendis, the game will give players the chance to play through some of Marvel’s most iconic events and stories, merged together for a unique gaming experience.

For fans to actually become their favorite heroes in an original storyline, explore iconic Marvel landscapes and combat some of the most dangerous villains in a shared experience is unbelievably compelling,” Marvel vice president of games TQ Jefferson said.

  1. DC Universe Online gave us DC Heroes MMO but it doesn’t let you play as the heroes except maybe in PvP. The great thing about Marvel Heroes is, players will get to play as their favorite Marvel Hero.
