Haha, the weird little featurette at the back is pretty funny.

Agreed. I liked the featurette better than the main story.

It's a nice story to open the sequence of the liberation of the Sanctuary. I did love the short story especially since Reed had to take the full blow for his mistake.

Johnny goes on these heartbroken rampages a little too often.

1-16pg-this is great art until the very last page. the story and script are typical hollywood. a quick wrap up.
17-22pg-companion story featuring Thing and Lockjaw in an alternate universe. this 5pgs can be considered part of this whole book (4-)

The little featurette at the end was funny, yet may be the first time Marvel hinted at alternate universes with the same subset of superheroes.

Really liked the featurette at the end. The conclusion to the main story was decent, but not great.

I think the end story was maybe a little test to see if there was interest in the other-dimension versions of known heroes, because we sure know there have been lots more since. I actually liked the main story. Though the fact that Johnny was okay with Crystal still having to leave felt weird when he had been acting like a moron for the past dozen or so issues because she was gone.

I continue to think Archie Goodwin is a master of plotting - he really built the suspense in that story, so that I was excited when Diablo first ran into Sue's force field and when Robles jumped Diablo at the end. He's totally showing Stan up on this book.

I think that's the first time I really liked Diablo as a villain. Enjoyed that he didn't care about the FF, only about getting back at Doom. The FF never entered his thoughts. He was totally focused on Doom. I hope he pops up in Doom's feature. That could be fun.

The main story was pretty good, but that little story at the back was fantastic!

4 stars for the Thing looking at the monster in the mirror!!!

Cover Me - Lovable Lockjaw and Curvy Crystal!!!

Macho Man - I liked Gen. Robles last ditch effort to stay in power!!

Double Take - I agree with others about the interesting alternate tale!!!

'Nuff Said - "That makes you my meat, fancy britches!"-Smooth Talking Thing

Liked the ish, but claiming a potion temporarily restored the ruins is nuts.

What did Diablo think would happen if he had gotten to his potions in time, that Johnny would just politely wait for Crystal to drink her mind control juice? If it has a set and predictable time limit, don't let it get closer!

'Nuff Said honorable mention: "It's growing---hardening!" -- One amazed Torch when he encounters Diablo (pg 8 pn 5). Seems to have forgotten Crystal all of a sudden.....

And once again, the forces of tyranny are crushed thanks to the Marvel Propaganda Machine, led by....Diablo??!! Well, we sure didn't see that one coming.

And Lockjaw can easily traverse the gap between alternate realities? Wonder why he doesn't do it more often. Regardless, what the others said about the Thing/Lockjaw featurette. That was pure genius!

3 stars. And if the powers-that-be that run this Order decree to separate the two stories in the future, I award the featurette 5 stars.

I put down 5 stars on this, and I think the issue earned some extra credit because I'm reading this chunk of Marvel chronologically. Most of the lineup at the start of 1972 is frigging *sad*. I was really, really happy to read a simple villain-whomping story with solid plotting and art. The dictator popping back up at the climax was a very welcome surprise, too; it gave the whole thing a much-appreciated twist. Finally, this issue gives the female characters some much-needed attention without going into a cringe-inducing 70s misinterpretation of feminism. Sue gets into the field for some real superheroing and Crystal gets an opportunity to wallop Johnny - even if she's being mind-controlled, that's always satisfying to watch.
