Issue Review

RikerDonegal
   November 23, 2016
Far-fetched, yes, but itís certainly an inventive piece of fun. Action-packed, too.
Visitors - Once again the engine driving the story is the arrival of visitors from the outside world. Honestly, once canít help but feel that the Savage Land is the number one holiday destination for characters in the Marvel Universe.
Coincidence - And we canít help but assume that the Savage Land must be rather small. Visitors arrive seeking Ka-Zar and... Ka-Zar sees their plane arriving and is within running distance of the crash site.
Story - The revelation of what is going on here is a hoot. It kinda unravels if you think about it too much, but if you go with it: itís fun. And itís certainly a different kind of Ka-Zar story.
Action - The big dumb lug is impressive here, it must be said, wading into battle to rescue a pilot from predators, etc.

6/10

Even though he is supposed to be a master of the mystic arts, I think this is the first time I've actually seen Dr. Doom use magic.

All 3 stories were interesting, yet I feel that Ka-Zar was the only one that contributed to the marvel universe.

I really dislike having to give one grade to all three stories. I didn't care for the Ka-Zar story, the Link Brothers were OK, but I loved the Doom story.

The Doom story is the only thing worth reading in this book.

If the only way Barbara and Paul could get to the Savage Land was a crude map drawn by Ka-Zar, how could J. Jonah Jameson and Peter Parker get in remarkably easily just a short time ago??

3 stars for the Flyboys giving the Jerries' a what for!!!

Bearings - @MattzLadd: Peter & Jonah had Calkin as a guide since he had already been there. Personally, I don't think that Bobbi and Paul were really trying that hard. Since a bunch of other people have found it already...

Platinum - Nice of Bobbi to dye her hair before going to the Savage Land...you know on a important mission to save Ka-Zar's life!!!

War Is Fun - I do like the idea of Nazis and British still fighting each other after the war ended long ago!!!

Inconceivable - Bamboo...to channel lava in....

Monkey Business - How can there be more Man-Apes when supposedly Maa-Gor was the last of them??!!

Rubber Ducky - Zabu is gonna to be pissed! He hates bath time!!!

'Nuff Said - "We don't know any man called Ka-Zar...and we aren't interested in your wild tales of peace!"-Captain "Cuckoo" Christopher

If they've been fighting for over 30 years, how old are those soldiers by now?? I mean, even if they were all 18 in 1942, they'd be at least 48 by now. You'd think by the time they're all getting into their 50s, someone might have gotten over constantly fighting and channeling lava through wooden pipes.

The Ka-Zar story was pretty badly executed. Roy actually had an interesting premise: British and German sailors carrying on World War II in the Savage Land where none of them could've known the war was over. But the flaws were so glaring here the entire premise fell apart right away. @Katryn nailed it with the sailors' ages, and the use of bamboo to channel lava in is science so bad not even Stan would consider using it. Those two errors alone made the rest of the story too implausible even by comic-book standards.

2 stars. I'm a little generous here because of an intriguing enough plot, and of course, Bobbi Morse!

Two groups of men get stranded in a primeval world and of course they fight. They must not be very good at war, however. Because there can't be too many on each side, and they are still fighting after 30 years. There haven't been many casualties over the years. It's not like they can make reinforcements.

Bamboo pipes to carry lava? Not many engineers in this group. Maybe the power of positive thinking is able to break the laws of thermodynamics in the Savage Land.
