Good story, plenty of mystery and action. Plus Ka-Zar comes across as quite the impressive warrior. 9/10

It reads like a Conan tale with a couple of changes to make it Ka-Zar, not necessarily a bad thing.

They do write in the beginning "due to circumstances beyond our control", so this was certainly not planned.

Naked boob alert! Yet comics code approved. Probably because she was really a lizard person. ;)

Weird. I was thinking the same... Reads like Conan. I wonder what that circumstance was.

Not a bad filler issue. I'm always a sucker for a lizard man story.

3 stars for Iranda...who makes me wanna I run da to her!!! And Ka-Zar wonders why Zabu is so smitten with her...

Double Splash - Nice image of Iranda all spread out!!

Vixens - Ka-Zar remarks that no savage jungle could spawn a woman like Iranda. How about those bathing beauties that you showed to Carla in Savage Tales #1?!

Clubbin' - I like that one Lizard Man pulling his girl by the hair!! (p5,p5)

'Nuff Said - "Not for nothing am I the jungle bred. Not for nothing am I the Jungle Lord."-Ka-Zar, the Not for Nothing

Y'know, for filler this ain't bad. I'd actually argue it's some of the better Ka-Zar material yet.

And apparently this issue was a real mess. They'd picked an old Lorna the Jungle Girl story for the backup, but accidentally replaced the last couple of pages of it with pages from a completely different Lorna story!

I feel like this issue should be after #10 in the order. I know this was published first, but isn't the whole point of the order to make things flow in a way that makes sense? I started to read this one, but then switched to #10 when I found out this one had nothing to do with the previous issue and I think that worked much better.

As for the story, I feel like this story must have been created for Savage Tales, but then thrown in here and perhaps censored a bit when the second issue of Savage Tales never materialized (at least not for two years). Anyway, Buscema's art is lovely as always (that double splash is gorgeous!) and I enjoyed this tale much more than the one in the first issue of Savage Tales.

If the lizard men were really the people of the village, Ka-Zar just burnt a few of them alive. But we won't mention that.

This is a pure guess, but likely the second part of the New Britainnia arc didn't make the deadline, so they used this story which was probably sitting in the vault for a future Savage Tales issue, and redrawn to meet the scrutinizing eye of the CCA. Is this in the Untold Tales of Marvel book?

I liked this one, however. The two Ka-Zar stories for Savage Tales really had the Conan-inspired look; John Buscema seemed to capture that better than Barry Smith did when he drew Ka-Zar. But John always knew how to capture mood and atmosphere as well as anyone in the industry at the time.

I'm with everyone else that gave props to Iranda's look, especially in that double splash page. Is it me, or was her hair thinning out in front as the story wore on, even before the moon came out? Also, being in the Antarctic, they probably don't see much moonlight, and if they did, maybe for just a few minutes at a time.

3 stars. Not bad at all for what it was.
