Between all the broken hearts in the soap opera of Matt’s life, and the pain & confusion of the bad guy, Daredevil #86 is a very sad.
The stuff between Matt and Karen Page is particularly well-written, I feel. It feels quite honest and real.
As for The Ox/Stragg… his tale/death is also one guaranteed to touch the reader. All told, this is great work from Gerry Conway and Gene Colan. 10/10

Wow, Black Widow really gets taken for a ride in this. She just sits around waiting while he decides whether he wants her or not.

The television intro was really good, but that was really about it, unfortunately...

Too much drama an dnot enough action still a nice way to tie a loose end with the Ox

So they bombarded the Ox with radiation until he only had a few weeks left and then they released him among the public, because, you know, radiation is so much fun.

The only thing that would have made this story would have Natasha breaking Matt's arm when holds out his hand to her, and them getting into her limo and driving away.

Are we finally rid of Karen? I know she has a return in the Miller era, but is this it for a while?

Ivan should appear at the end, slap Natasha in the face a few times, break Matt's nose, arms and legs and kick Stan, Gerry and Gene out of comic books industry.
I would rather read Mike Murdock adventures, or Fantastic Four #24 one hundred times than this.

I returned to comments for this issue to start my "the rape of..."
I call it The Rape of the Black Widow.

I've gotten drunk to forget women quite a few times. Never in my life have I wanted to get drunk to forget a comic book until now. This issue just raped my mind... Excuse me while I chug this bottle of vodka...

Conway writes women as if one had just broken up with him. I did like the Ox story, but the relationship drama here is somehow worse than it's ever been, because now instead of it being Matt and Karen, Conway saw fit to ruin the Black Widow as well.

  duncanm Says:

And just like that, all the female cred that Marvel gained with the Black Widow was flushed down the drain. I really hope she rides him for it for as long as they're together. At least we're done with Karen for a looooong time.
Anyone else think that there should be a bigger problem at the end due to the fact that a radioactive guy just blew up?

My brian kept screaming fallout radiation, another part was thinking about all the lawsuits from the release of the OX.

They were drowned out from the cheers of 3 years without Karen.

Just 1 star for the poor treatment of the Widow and Ox!!

Jailbird - How did Dr. Stragg/Ox end up back in prison? At the end of DD #15 he was able to walk away!!

No Prize - Phil Hichock changes to Phil Kingston for this issue!

Double Jeopardy - Dr. Stragg in DD #15 was imprisoned for endangering lives with his experiments. Now it's for killing his wife!!

'Nuff Said - "Can't you see yet--it's over? You owe him zero, sweetheart."-Ivan

Ivan has generally annoyed me as a patronising arse, but damn it if the Widow didn't deserve it this issue. I just wanted her to start bitch slapping people left, right and centre.

Bad issue. Horrible. In one sense, I had to admire Natasha for taking the high road when it was clear to her that Matt was going back to Karen. But I'm with everyone else; She should've mopped the floor with Matt's face. You all know what they say about a woman scorned, and it takes serious balls to scorn a woman like Natasha the way Matt did.

So if they knew Ox/Stragg was treated with "pharmaceutical isotopes," didn't it occur to that smart-apple warden to maybe try out a Geiger counter on him to make sure he wasn't dangerous to the general public before he was released? And when he blew up? I think that's one city block (or twenty five) that will go unoccupied for a long long time.

1 star. I understand this story was intended to end the Matt/Karen relationship for all time, and Karen left the series until well into the Frank Miller era. But could it have been done in a way that didn't assassinate Natasha's dignity?
