Issue Review

Starts off strong, with two interesting villains bickering while undertaking a mission for someone. Scenes with Stark highlight drama in both his love life and business life. Very entertaining. Script stumbles a little in the final conflict, when one of the villain's is revealed to have even more powers than previously revealed. But there's an interesting use for Tony's girlfriend. 7/10

Jim Mooney's wondrous work can't save this book. The word count is diabolically high. There is an interesting development, but Stark's discombobulated self-talk and continual muttering is puzzling. Inking falls apart at the end....I mean, who are these dodgy villians of late? (2-)

I am split on this issue. Part of it is actually not half bad, and the other half is terrible. The stuff involving Tony himself and his balancing act between rich playboy and super-hero is pretty good. Even the dialog, which at this time is still universally crummy, isnít cringe worthy. Lee does a good job of showing the conflict he goes through.

The flip side is the Iron Man portion of the story. Dr. Strange, not to be confused with the Master of Mysticism Dr. Strange, is really really bad. His dialog is painful and difficult to read. And every oneís response to Iron Manís hypnotism is also pretty bad. They recognize he is hypnotised by the stiff way he walksÖBut this is a guy in a big metal suit, you would think he walks stiff all the time.

It is interested culturally from our place now to see the talk of A-Bombs throughout this issue. While itís clear through out the 60ís the affect nuclear energy and weapons have on the writers, this is one of the first times we see how starkly they focus on the weapons themselves. And how common place it is in a book still clearly aimed at kids. Everyone thinks detailed explanations of every action they take, but they talk about a-bombs with no more then a passing comment. Scary when you mull that over.

What happened to the Iron Man series? Tony reduced to a bumbling woman overthinking every little thing!

I'm at the point where I dread seeing this title pop up in the order. This issue was just so bad and over-written.

Since when did Tony have such big power issues again? I thought that was fixed years ago?!
And we have a dame that will be able to guess Tony's dual identity, and he's concerned for her safety. I don't see this ending well for her...

2 stars for the 1st app of Demitrius & Slasher! Who I'm sure will go on to greatness!! Especially with those marvelous matching costumes!!!

Cover Me - I like it that it mentions the Slasher, but shows Demitrius instead! Also, his costume and tentacles are colored different!!

The Boss - I know what to get Travis Starnes for Christmas! A monogramed Tony Stark belt buckle!! (p6,p5)

High Times - Iron Man takes off from the plane, and the sound he makes is SSHHRROOM?!

Getaway - And who is the mysterious Lucie with the umpire's chest padding??

Perky - It looks like Demitrius has boobies with his tentacles...

'Nuff Said - "That was your power? That?"-The Slasher

The way Iron Man gently lowers that woman with his repulsor ray seems unlikely, and it's depicted as if he is using a Green Lantern ring or something with way more control.

Hehe, it looks like Iron Man is trying to put his fingers in his ears through his helmet to block the sonic thingy. I'm probably overly amused by that.

Marianne's mental abilities might be a little interesting here; out of left field for this type of mag but they still might work. I also thought Iron Man had the power bugs worked out in this suit. Is his new pacemaker having increasing power demands? I don't think I like this story device; we've seen it how many times now? Most people in his condition wouldn't just talk about retiring, they'd have simply done it by now.

2 stars. Pretty forgettable villains here, too. I have a feeling this arc is going to be a slog to get through.

There was a lot of interesting pieces here.

The weird Congressional/Senatorial conspiracy has reeled in another industrialist along with Stark and the late, lamented Cord.

Our Mr. Klein has shuffled over from the pages of Daredevil to bedevil the Armored Avenger.

Also interesting is both Marianne's and Demetrius's precognition abilities.

This could have been a solid story but for Gerry Conway's overheated melodramatic narration which took the life right out of the story. It's about this time he stops writing like that as witnessed in Daredevil, and gets better quickly.

I can't wait, but until then...

Two Stars.

Two characters with ESP of some sort. It's amazing how coincidences like that keep popping up.

The Kline storyline is an interesting exercise.

Overall, I think this storyline is not that great, but at least the Daredevil issues have been better than the rest of his general run.

Ugh....Fels like 90 percent of Marvel is wrote by Gerry Conway right now. Probably because he uses 90 percent more words than anyone else. I dread seeing him as the writer.
