Issue Review

Dreary.
Opening Scenes - Tony is plagued by nightmares. But, at least, he sleeps in pajamas. In the next room, Marianne can’t sleep. And she’s in the nude. Cue some pointless cheesecake art. Apart from that, the opening scenes do little more than establish the duo are a deeply miserable couple.
Villain - The next scenes establish the villain of the piece, another agent of the same mysterious mastermind who has been behind everything lately. Cue some pointless self-important dialogue.
Arrest - The middle of the issue is devoted to a silly sequence where Iron Man is arrested for little or no reason, on the orders of a cartoon villain. Who, it transpires, is actually another agent for the same mysterious mastermind who has been behind everything lately.
Climax - IM is lured into a generic battle with the other villain, who for some odd reason keeps dropping his own name into a series of non-nonsensical rants. IM is consistently powerless and ineffectual here. And his unstable girlfriend is involved too.

4/10

This issu made me remember Inferno which was later writen for X-Men. I have to say Soul father was a week name for the villan.

After the DD run and the Sub-Mariner run, this Iron Man run is pushing me to the limit. I have never been so tempted to skim.

Consider the very, very silly costume of Mikas. It looks very impractical doesn't it? Now consider the fact that about half the costumed female characters of Marvel wear such things. I'm just saying...

Conway, at this point in time, is writing all of his heroes the same-screwed-up love life, mountains of self-pity and really lame villains.

My God this was awful. I HATE Conway so much.

That scene with Sitwell was cool. its a shame we don't see him again for years. I guess he needs time to heal

Plot sucks. Soul Father sounds like a porn star name. This is horrible and well deserving of a "what the crap did I just read?!"

I can't remember the last time I laughed this hard at a character's costume. "Soul Father" looks ridiculous. And his name reminded me of McLovin'. Terrible costume, terrible name, terrible comic.

That was just bad. Nice to see Sitwell is doing alright, but otherwise...painful.

2 stars for the sinful swinging sounds of Soulfather!!!

Cover Me - It would've been nice if they actually colored Marianne's hair right!!

Blond Ambition - +1 star for Marianne sleeping au naturale!!!

Curious - With everything going on, Iron Man might want to check up on Sen. Byrd's "retirement"!!

Weenie Roast - I wonder if Operative 12 was a robot, or human when Mr. Kline burned him to a crisp?!

'Nuff Said - "Gently, my darling--stay gently. The hand of Mikas is...soft."-Clammy Hands Mikas

Who's a lamer villian, Soulfather or Paste Pot Pete? Oh these are the questions that keep us up at night!

I must say, I don't care about Marianne. And it annoys me that Soulfather is claiming to be a mutant.

So if this Soulfather character is so powerful, what's he doing working for a crime boss like Mr. Klein? This issue just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

1 star.

I almost threw it against the wall when he declared his name, "Soul Father!"
I read it. I hated it, but I read it.

I'm gonna say Soul Father, because Paste-Pot Pete occasionally is an effective villain.

The cover is the best thing here. Overheated melodrama, again!

Two stars.

Honestly, you could do this whole plot with another writer, and a different villain, and it would be fine. The mix of the bad villain, and the overwrought dialogue tanked this one.

I will say, I kinda liked the tickertape panel. It was a little off, but I appreciated the attempt at something novel

Soulfather? Really? That is the name with which you are going? Okay, I may question your life choices, but don't let me stop you.

What a dull read! Even the titilation of Marianne nude in bed couldn't enliven the issue.

  Marksman Says:

I'm not liking how the stories are ignoring the modifications Tony made in regard to making sure the armor had enough power. In this issue, IM was affected by the heat from the lava and complaining of losing power. The thermocouplers he installed in the last armor modifications (Model V Mark II) are supposed to draw power from the heat, so he should have been gaining power.
