Issue Review

RikerDonegal
   November 23, 2016
The whole issue is a battle.
Iron Man finally starts going on the attack, and he does this by... slipping out of his handcuffs. Somehow. Itís never made clear how. Heís chained up, then he makes the decision to be less ďpassiveĒ and - simply by making that decision, it seems - he is able to get his hands free and challenge the villain. Okay. Whatever.
At this point, itís fair to say that the "story" is dragging on too long. Only the scenes debuting a brand new hero break the monotony.
4/10

I don't see any point to this run of Iron Man. Every issue reads like a cheap filler story.

Terrible. I was so relieved that the extra pages in the book were a reprint, and I didn't have to keep reading.

another mind games story (groan). Inks are very nice, Tuska pencils are pretty good, but this Mikos is just about the dumbest costume ever. It ain't Boomerang, but not far off. Word count gets prohibitive, but recent scripts have been worse than this one.

Nothing here has any kind of weight due to the bad writing. I'm just not caring about what happens to anyone in these comics.

I seem to have liked this more than most. I saw the robot reveal of Mikos coming, but I'm glad he's broken and gone. At this point I'm trying to figure out who the real baddie is behind Mr Kline is. Dr Doom and Ultron are obvious options due to all of the robots, but I get a distinct Mephisto feel. Oh well, we'll see. Well...we better.

I haven't read this yet but the cover art isn't a good sign.

  MattDog37 Says:

Is it "Doomprayer" or "Doomsprayer?" The cover uses the former but Iron Man's thought bubble on page 17 uses the latter.

Pretty bad issue, but I did like that Soulfather being an android wasn't revealed until the visuals at the end.

2 stars for Kevin finally breaking out the Guardsman armor!!!

My Two Cents - Poor Iron Man, like Daredevil, doesn't even get a extra page story. Just an old Ant-Man & Wasp filler. Both titles were doing bad with even some bi-monthly issues. Instead of dragging on the Mr. Kline storyline that goes nowhere. Why not use both 25cent issues to wrap it up? Hopefully having room to flesh out the story better!

Vanity - It looks like Mikas changed hairstyles between issues!

OSHA - Should Kevin have a lit cigarette in the pressure chamber??

Judas - Such a great sendoff for Ben Crandal...

Alluded Illusion - How does the lava hurt Soulfather now when he was swimming in it last issue??

'Nuff Said - "Then you must think again! Think long, Avenger--think hard! For they shall be the very last thoughts--that you ever own!"-Mikas the Thinker

For as overwritten as this issue is, I still feel like nothing was explained very well.

Is the reveal yet to come regarding Mr. Kline? Or is the reveal that he's a robot also known as "the Assassin" supposed to be the big reveal?

Marianne has been a nice regular in these issues though. She's been drawn very nicely, and I'm curious to see if there's an explanation coming for her ESP powers...

I really liked this until the last like 5 pages. It became rushed, confusing and the transitioning was just weird. 2 Stars.

This issue, like the story arc, is a mess. Please, can we just wrap this up and move on?

  Katryn Says:
  2017-02-06 23:28:08
So I'm supposed to believe that Marianne doesn't know that Iron Man is Tony Stark, but that she broke out of Mikas' mind whammy because of her love for Tony. Who she doesn't know is there. Or does she? Oh well, at least no one mentioned the name Soulfather this issue.

  Russ Says:

No wonder Tony would eventually be driven to drink. After reading this, I'm feeling kinda the same way.

1 star. Is it wrong to say the Giant-Man/Wasp reprint was better than the feature story here?

  drfaustus13 Says:

@Russ No, I re-read the reprint to remind myself of better times in the order. I genuinely hope Iron Man becomes better again soon. I'm shocked that there's a point where I'm lookimg forward to Hulk and Sub-Mariner and dreading Iron Man and Daredevil. It's like an inverse 60s...

Somehow, at the end of this issue, I felt a bit like Elmer Fudd yelling "Wobots! Wobots! Oh, my aching head! Wobots!"

Two stars.

Wow, Kevin talks to himself more than I do.

Tony, you might want to get a separate power supply for your heart. I'm surprised a mechanical genius such as yourself hasn't already thought of that.

His heart is not a source of dramatic tension because we know he will live. Even back when this came out, did anyone really believe that he might possibly die?

  Marksman Says:

Had to agree with Mr Kline when he said, "Enough talk, Mikas. Your mouthings weary me."
