While still flawed, this average story is still a step up from the ones before it. Turning someone who was previously a good guy into a raving lunatic is certainly one way to generate drama! The Marianne character continues to cry a lot, cling to Tony unhealthily and issue ambiguous warnings due to her vague and useless ESP powers. No wonder Tony loves her! 5/10

So much death in the last 100 or so issues in the order. Makes for some really interesting storytelling.

Marianne's ESP powers are really annoying though.

I like the thouch with the ESP, and hope that she will get better using it.. not too good, but alitle better then she is at this point.

Yawn. Just a rehash of the Happy Hogan / Freak storyline with the best friend and confidante gone mad, and a love triangle between Tony, the mad best friend, and a cardboard cutout of a woman. This just has the distinction of adding annoying 70s student protesters.

I liked Kevin prior to the last few issues. Once he became the guardsman a lot of potential went out the window.

i've really been struggling with this run of iron man. very confusing. really hate what they've done to kevin.

I like how there is a random barrel of Napalm sitting around...

They couldn't seem to decide whether it was three or four people hurt. Over the last issue it started as four, then became three for some reason, only for it to be four again by the time this one came out.

The art is nice, straight forward typical comics. Tuska style I do enjoy and Verpoorten inks are better than his usual faire. Plenty of backgrounds and some really dazzling coloring, to boot. This love triangle might be tiresome, but the story is an interesting, yet unfortunate culmination of the past 5 or 6 issues. The script is pretty well composed, because the end came sooner than expected. I liked this one. (3+)

Story is much improved except for the part when IM was fighting the Soul Father and the heat from him controlling lava didn't restore his energy cells.

Hilarious how they pissed away Kevin's character with poor writing and a bad ending. How pathetic is it that the only thing in this issue that I found remotely interesting was the Luke Cage mention in Stan's Soapbox?

  duncanm Says:

So the guy that attacked protesting students on your behalf was killed as Iron Man was trying to protect them, and you think this works in your favor how? This isn't the first baddie IM has killed, and he's still out there.

  MattzLadd Says:

It would have been fine if they had built up to Kevin's personality overhaul - not just having him suddenly be willing to die for a girl he probably doesn't even actually love.

3 stars for the death of the Guardsman!! But don't worry, there will be a lot more replacements to come!

Cover Me - Awesome image of the battle of the tin cans!!!

Splash - I love how they put the credits in the newspaper!!

Behind The Scenes - Last issue there was a cliffhanger ending of Iron Man caught between the cops and protesters about to fight. Now, it's a day later and we have to read about it in the paper??!!

Jab - Great scene of Stark punching Gilbert, but I don't know if I would saying out loud that I'm going to change into Iron Man in front of him!!

0 Lives - If only Iron Man would've pushed the Guardsman's reset button like he did last issue....

Napalm Death - I don't think Iron Man's extinguisher system could've put out that napalm fire...

'Nuff Said - "Tony--my ESPER powers--they're tingling strangely!"-Spider-Marianne

The ending kinda sucked. We never really saw Kevin live up to his potential; instead, he goes out like a flaming jacka**. It's a dark time for a book when a character's integrity is ruined before he's killed off.

Corporate America is taking it on the chin in this arc as well. Gilbert apparently has no problem seeing people die or get seriously hurt during his power grab. And the rest of the board seems to be more than happy to go along for the ride. Message: rich people don't care about you when lots of dollars are at stake.....their dollars! Hopefully Tony makes a lot of heads roll once he gets control of the company back.

3 stars. Kudos to Gary for stepping in and establishing some degree of quality in this book again. Not great, but leaps and bounds ahead of the previous arc.

1968-1976 were a very dark time in the US. The Age of Nixon made Americans examine everything from love to government to science and much of it was found wanting.

In a lot of ways this issue is an example of that. Iron Man trying to talk the kids down from their rampage and Guardsman deciding for a more violent route.

Yeah, we're going to miss Kevin and I thought his Marianne fixation was a artificial.

This however, was a big step up for the feature. I kind of like Iron Man trying to figure out where he belongs in a world where weapons manufacturers are no longer trusted.

Three Stars.

So, Iron Man settled down the fuzz and the protesters? How would Kevin be doing Ireland a favor by killing American protesters?

I will miss Kevin. He had potential as a supporting cast member. Someone who could rival Tony in mechanics and inspiration. There could have been a good rivalry/one-upsmanship type of friendship there. It would have been good for both characters.

The love triangles need to stop. They are not as dramatic as the writers seem to think.

  Marksman Says:

So, how did Peter Parker snap a photo for the Bugle of the Iron Man/Guardsman fight? Was he a protester or was Spider-Man doing a swing-by?

Sitwell needs to get better so that Stark Industries security gets better. Evidently, the gate guards are just allowing the protesters onto the factory grounds.
