Issue Review
   November 27, 2016
Amnesia and coincidences are the engine that drives the story here. A "story" that is nothing more than random events, giving the sense that it's being made up as it goes along.
Namor displays none of the traits here that make him such an interesting superhero. Instead he wanders aimlessly for page after page, wondering who he is.
His aimless trek takes him to the precise location where a villain has concocted an elaborate/unlikely scheme which requires Namor. Gosh, lucky he turned up!
Very silly. 2/10

  Three points:
1) This was a total mess.
2) Why is Byrrah so different looking from other Atlanteans? He is green and has big weird red eyes. Or are those glasses?
3) Atlanteans must be made of tough stuff indeed, as even half-Atlanteans can hang about in the waters of the Antarctic in bikinis.

I was surprised. From the title of the story, I expected the usual anniversary issue origin re-telling. Instead, we get Bill Everett writing and drawing a good Namor tale.

Good story. Not complaining about Namorita in a bikini at all. Im just curious why Cindy just leaves like she did...

Cindy last issue: "I need you more than any woman has ever needed a man!"
Cindy this issue: "Later."

It's nice to finally have Namor not being the only Atlantean that likes to hang out in their underwear, though it may be a little excessive as they seem to be painting her as being very young.

Everett seems still on form and equal to the current team on this title, which is good. Namorita is also introduced, a major re-occurring character for both Namor and Marvel in general.

3 stars for the 1st app of Namorita!!! I wonder if she got her bikini from Dr. Goldfoot?!

Cover Me - Those Crab Men look more like imitation crab meat...

Credit Due - @skalchemist & AmazingGatorMan: With Bill taking over writing, he quickly gets rid of Cindy, and draws Atlanteans the way he used to back in the 40's!!

Bends - I guess Namor forgot that he had no problem breathing underwater for DOOM last issue...

Dribble - Namor was so scared of that Crab Man...he peed himself!!! (p7,p3-4)

Surly Crab - Salamar looks like a reject from the 50's movie "Attack of the Crab Monsters"!!!

Frozen Fish - To me, this is the 1st modern app of Namora, since SM #33 was a flashback.

Slick - It does make you wonder who was the poor Atlantean in the oil?!

Bottoms Up - Funny image of Llyra plugging the oil spring!!

Distant - Makes you wonder where Nita was all this time? Also, Llyra supposedly killing Namora???

'Nuff Said - "Hey! Cut that out, you-you dirty old man! Just who do you think you're mashing?"-Namorita

While I really liked this story, it is dumb that Namorita is looking for Namor, finds him, but doesn't recognize him. So far we've seen plenty of incredible coincidences and plenty of plot holes throughout the order, but it is rare that a single scene will check both of those boxes like this did.

So what, was Nita just sleeping when Namor tried to rescue her? You'd think he'd at least notice that she had pointy ears.

Poor Namor; first he gets another case of amnesia, now a bad case of the crabs! All kidding aside, even though this story was excellent, I had a hard time taking Salamar seriously. However, I did enjoy seeing Llyra getting dunked headfirst into that oil.

I approach this story, and the upcoming run by Bill Everett, as bittersweet. I bet it was Golden Age uber-fan Roy Thomas's idea to have him do the 50th issue, as well this upcoming run. Artwise and storywise, when it comes to comparing this story with most of his Golden Age run on Namor, Everett knocked it out of the park here. It's really good to see him pull out all the stops on what will end up being his final stint on his most famous creation, and if I recall correctly, he's doing this run under gradually failing health. I also liked that Everett drew Byrrah the way he's supposed to be depicted; as he was in the late 1940s when he was first introduced into the strip. Enjoy this run, readers; this is the end of an era.

And in addition to seeing her in the bikini, I'm interested in more Namorita and more of her backstory. Hopefully Bill will divulge more of her history before his tenure on the book ends.

4 stars. Maybe that one guy covered in oil was the old Byrrah, the way he was drawn in the Silver Age.

Surprisingly fun little story. Seriously, how do they not freeze with so little clothes? Are they physically build like fish?

I understand Llyra's plot: kill Namor. Buty, I don't get Byrrah's: get Namor to rebuild the kingdom, then take control?
