Issue Review

by RikerDonegal: Villain - The first third of this is devoted to the big reveal as to the identity of the villain behind it all is. Itís actually a surprise. Partly because it doesnít really make sense to have this character suddenly pop up in CAPTAIN AMERICA. That aside, there are some interesting story ideas here. The connection between the villain and the Supreme Hydra, for instance. So it works on some levels.
Falcon - The Falcon shows up mid-way through the comic, on his way to help Cap (despite this being a complete contradiction of what happened in the previous chapter). Weirdly, he is given information (by Nick Fury) that completely explains everything thatís going on. Everything. Including the identity and location of the master villain. Info that Cap doesnít have yet. Gosh, Nick, why didnít you give that folder to Steve before you sent him off to Vegas?
Slugfest - The second half of this is devoted to a big slugfest, with Cap and Falc teaming up to take down the bad guy. Despite the storytelling flaws that got us this far, the fight is fun.
4/10

The big reveal in this issue is contrived and down right silly.

  @Redsvetz: Agreed.

Also, Captain America can't beat Kingpin 1v1? Rubbish.

Christ, Hydra can't even manage to electrocute someone properly.

Unlike the other commentators, I enjoyed this one a lot. The Kingpin's backstory didn't bother me nearly as much, and I thought the fight between Cap, Kingpin and the Falcon was fun.

Ok, I didn't have it figured for the Kingpin, but I have a feeling my guess will pop up next issue.

I guess I was right about the predictable surprise from last issue; it was very obvious:) Awww, it's a shame to see Romita gone. Verpoorten kinda specializes in this rushed, child-friendly style. The art isnt bad, its just not so good. We have panels with no backgrounds, maybe that was for effect, it just looks hurried to me. Now, on the other hand, we have a well scripted story, and a pretty beefy story, at that; I really enjoyed this yarn. Also, crazy panels are back, and that's not a good thing. (3+)

Once again Val is shown to be a professional and should be the leader of the Femme Force. She was faced with a similar situation as Sharon and smartly assumed Cap could handle it. Sharon can be a good agent, but she is too much of a liability to be leading.

Hydra can't do anything right. They're like the 3 stooges... Good for a cheap laugh...

Okay, so it wasn't Red...this issue. Just because they had to make hi an even BIGGER surprise net issue, right? And I figured it was Kingpin on the first page of this issue when we saw the size of his fingers. Of course, I'd call it less "surprise" and more "Makes no sense", since Cap and Kingpin have no history together, and so it didn't follow that he would be so hell bent on taking out him and SHIELD.

The only parts of this story that made sense to me were the parts copied directly from Stan's Schemer story.

2 stars for the Kingpin having a "Cat's in the Cradle" moment!!!

Cover Me - I love the image of Cap on the cover!!!

Mood Uniform - Val's suit changes from blue to red!!!

Location - In Captain America #145 the Hydra base was under the Strip. Now it's twenty miles outside of town??!!!

Greasy Fingers - It would've been an better reveal if the Kingpin had a bucket of chicken in his lap!!!

Impatient - The Kingpin chides Cap for finally asking what's going on...Cap just walked into the room! This is the first time that they've met!!!

Wing It - @Kez: I agree, Cap should of beat Kingpin without Redwing coming to his rescue!!

'Nuff Said - "FATHER...HELP ME!"-Luke Skywalker, uh, I mean the Schemer
