Issue Review

After a long opening speech from the villain, this one is fast and furious as Cap and various other characters try to stop a giant robot from destroying Las Vegas!
It's all a bit silly. Sharon, who nearly died 2 issues back is suddenly completely fine again. After what? An hour in hospital? And story elements from earlier issues - like the kidnapping of a millionaire - are written off without actually got nag anywhere or paying off.
This story arc feels like it was being made up as it went along.
4/10

The Sleepers weren't a good idea the first four times we saw one, this fifth one really isn't any better.

Not to mention the female SHIELD agents blasted out of the sky, or the mobsters whose car was annihilated.

A lot more death in the order lately. Guess we're moving into the Bronze Age.

Don't get me wrong, I hate Nazism as much as anybody, but having "Nazism" be the power behind Hydra just doesn't make grammatical or narrative sense. I think they just looked at the issue # and said, "hmmmm, been a while since we've seen Red Skull, time to bring him back, work him in, Roy."

Another master plotter in Cap that turns out to be the Red Skull. They need to add to Cap's rogues gallery.

This art is good. Inks look like they were spread across the entire bullpen. Some pages were surely Sinnott. Backgrounds appear to be getting less populated with the recent increase in titles to produce, hey, sometimes it works to great effect; other times it looks unfinished. That is not to say there are no backgrounds, because there are plenty, here. Story-wise its as dull as dishwater. Also, some alliances between protagonists and antagonists are completely unbelievable. The script was better than the story by a smidgen. (3)

As soon as Sharon gets back in charge the Femme Force gets their butts kicked. If Fury was a competent leader he would see that they are better off being run by Val.

Deducted a star for yet another Sleeper. I hope Marvel finally puts this idea to sleep for good.

Yay, Falcon wasn't a d-bag this issue! Why exactly did Skull use the paralyzing gas on Vegas, instead of the "kill everything like an insect" gas? It's not really a sleeper robot if people are inside running it, is it? What was Red's plan with Cap? He told him to enter the robot, then when he did, he beat the crap out of everyone.

"Oh damn, we have to wrap this whole story up in the next two pages. Screw it, Cap gets inside and punches out everybody, the end."

I groaned when I saw the cover. Another Sleeper we didn't need. We can only hope this is the final sleeper.

The Red Skull was not needed. I liked the idea of Kingpin being the Hydra leader.

I found it hilarious when Cap was sneaking around the Sleeper very carefully, then at the first sign of Hydra agents he just forgets everything about stealth and literally flips a guy over and sounds every alarm.

2 stars for the Red Skull playing some craps, catching a show, and eating at a buffet in Sin City!!!

Leisure - The Kingpin is so shocked from seeing the Red Skull his suit changed to brown! When last issue it was blue!!!

Tough Guy - I want to see more of Moose Mallard!!! Also, armored cars with gun mounts no less!!

Feminine Wiles - I bet those Hydra soldiers didn't mind being guarded by the redhead in her underwear!!!

Falling Out - I'm surprised the Red Skull says he's doing it for Hitler. Didn't they try to kill each other in the past??

Overactive Bladder - That slick spot on the floor is from the Red Skull pissing himself...

Good Behavior - I wonder if they let Kingpin & Son go afterwards?!

'Nuff Said - "You young idiot...my own son...duped by the forces of Nazism!"-KP

"We have completed the fourth and final Sleeper robot! Each is more powerful than the last! Each less destructible than the next! Our plans are unstoppable now!"

"Good, good. But hear me out. What if, and I'm not naming any names, but what if the glorious Reich is reduced to a single hopelessly ineffective idiot who manages to get four unbeatable world-killing robots destroyed?"

"Alright *fine*. One more then! And we'll even put it in the middle of the U.S.! Surely no one could mess *that* up!"

All I could think while the Skull was saying how his sleeper robots kept getting beaten was the king of Swamp Castle and the number of castles he had to build to get one that didn't sink into the swamp.

For a bunch of robots that were supposedly designed to secure the future of the Fourth Reich or the Red Numbskull's vision of Earth, they sure went down easy. At this point, naming those robots "sleepers" are quite appropriate: you can defeat them in your sleep.

2 stars. About the only reason this arc existed, in my opinion, was to demonstrate how bad an idea the bullpen thought Femme Force was.
