Issue Review

by RikerDonegal: Yet another story where Banner is cured.
But, despite reusing the same idea as earlier tales, this is actually a very enjoyable story. It brings back a great love interest for Hulk/Banner and creates a crisis that threatens the world.
A crisis that - it must be said - makes no sense whatsoever but one which is extremely well told (name-dropping every well known big brain in the Marvel Universe, as you would expect with a global crisis).
8/10

by jfpj1991: Iím going to start with the low points of this issue. First, I want to point out, that changing Jarellaís size should have had no effect on the sun as mass can be neither created nor destroyed, simply transformed. 60ís physics, whatever. The only other low point I noticed, is that this and Captain America seemed to similarly parallel with seeming loss of a loved one.

Now on to the many accolades of this issue, while it did parallel Captain America, to see the Hulk kill the enemy so forthrightly was profound. P-R-O-F-O-U-N-D, we have not seen such direct murder from any hero up to this point in the order, and it was incredible to see the transformation. Secondly, this issue was different because even though Bannerís life is marked by loss because of his inability to be close to Betty as the Hulk, he has found acceptance of the Hulk. There was no misunderstanding that led to the Hulk feeling betrayed, no actual betrayal. There is love between him and Jarella and this was painful to watch their parting. A highly emotional issue, which was hard for the early years of the Order to portray outside of Spider-Man. I truly loved this issue, 5 out of 5 stars!!!!

Scientifically speaking, this one made no sense on so many levels...

Herb Trimpe is not the best illustrator in the Order at this point, but I think he is the best visual storyteller.

I would love to watch Congress argue the Budget for combatting the Hulk.

I love Trimpe art. Some of Sevrin's work makes me feel like this book was from the mid60s. This isn't the greatest artwork, but it speaks to me. This is an excellent story. We do get romance too like many Marvel books of this time. The script is the weakest part, but this story saves the day. I loved this book. (4)

Right, also General Ross's obsession with the Hulk (to the point of putting soldiers at risk) would probably get him relieved of command in real life.

While I liked it, I couldn't get past the science fail that jfpj mentioned in the blurb above. That bothered me since nothing happened on Earth when Hulk shrunk to their size in the earlier Hulk issues.

Oh, I'm sure that the Hulk wont be able to escape that base, and the world will not have to fear him ever again. But why is he so small in that last panel?

From the "science" being spewn in this issue pal, I think your high school physics instructor didn't quite get his point across to you.

I spit on the fact that Jarella emerged at the exact place Bruce just happened to be at the time.

3 stars for the return of Jarella the girl from the emerald atom!!!

Credit Due - Another early credit for an young Chris Claremont!!

Starcore One - Nice 1st app of Peter Corbeau! Also, I'm surprised Betty didn't fall for him!!!

Top Gun - Nice scene of the jets buzzing the Hulk, and the use of the rocket darts!!

Object - Hmmm...in Torla's retreat it looks like a Ditko sculpture in the background!!! (p7,p4)

Wardrobe Malfunction - There are a couple of panels where the colorist couldn't tell where Jarella's outfit began or ended!!

Urine Therapy - Watch out Hulk! That could be a golden shower raining down on you!!!

Mumbo Jumbo - Yeah, I agree with others above. I don't see how some magic spells from the Microverse can effect the Sun when it is being used to cure gamma radiation??!!

Brain Power - Fialan looks like the lovechild of the Leader and Brainiac!!!

Level Clearance - Shouldn't Gen. Ross know about LMD's???

Sun Faded - It looks like a side effect of curing Banner is his hair changing color!! (p16,p5)

'Nuff Said - "Touch her and see how fast the Hulk can smash!"-Rampaging Hulk

I would expect Betty asking about Jarella and some kind of jealous but coincidentally Betty dissappear and they never met each other

Excited to see both Claremont and Peter Corbeau on this book! Makes me eager to get to the X-Men revamp. (still a ways off, I know)

Hulk killing the assassin was pretty brutal. Have we seen him kill like that before?
