Issue Review

This is a great comic. Comes up with a good reason for the Hulk to slug it out with Havok, and makes the resulting fight actually mean something to the X-Man.
Opens directly after the previous story, putting the Hulk up against the army right away. Also shows him being clever, getting away from them.
Hulk's displays of strength are cool. Going up against the army, some bikers and - a mountain.
The Betty/Jarella triangle finally comes to fruition, too.
10/10

Nice to see Alex and Lorna again, but otherwise this was a fairly middle of the road issue.

Wow, Havok is put to the test in this issue! The character of Alex Summers takes a developmental leap here, however I can't say the same for Lorna! And Major Talbot is a jerk! Seriously!

Gee, Betty, maybe he means he found somebody who actually cares about him.

I've never liked Trimpe's art, but in this issue I've finally noticed that there's been a steady improvement in his work over time.

Looks like the best way to improve the Hulk comics is add in more interesting characters from other titles.

I haven't been reading Hulk and I must say I don't feel I'm missing anything. Havok and Lorna were the best thing about this issue. And seeing Havok start controlling his power was pretty impressive. I do like how Lorna's hair is much greener than in the X-Men titles.

The art here may be the best this duo has rendered to date (I said that last issue, too!!). These guys will never achieve top billing, but there is something very moving in this art work. The story and plot are even more impressive. Maybe Stan going back to writing (not very good writing from Stan, of late) has allowed the hired guys to turn in some darn fine work. The pace here is is captivating, with the guest stars making it even better. Even the coloring is on point. I loved this! (4)

This was just a plug for the return of the X-Men... And I liked it.

Not really a plug, the return of the X-Men is still about 4 years away. But it was still a nice reminder that they're still out there.
And I absolutely loved Hulk picking up that mountainside. It's been rare so far that we're really shown how strong Hulk is, besides punching tanks.

The US Congress works very strangely in 616. You have a senator debating a representative and a congressional hearing without any witnesses testifying. Is it bad that I was more interested in Bizarro Congress than in this forgettable story?

3 stars for Mutie Madness in New Mexico!!!

Warhorse - I like that Gen. Ross put his hat back on while wearing the gas mask! I'm surprised he didn't have a cigar hanging out one of the filters!!!

Sprung - Like everyone said, it didn't take long for the Hulk to break out of the Hulkbusters Base!!

Excess - Self-Propelled Cannons??? If only they had some tanks...

Mint Green - Good thing the Hulk intervened; I think the biker gang wanted to see if Polaris carpet matched her drapes!!!

Mole Hill - @duncanm: Just wait till you see what the Hulk does in Secret Wars!!!

'Nuff Said - "Why do you scream and struggle? Hulk is saving you!"-Guardian Hulk

Trimpe's art doesn't usually wow me, but there's some utterly fantastic panels in this issue.

This got an extra star for Betty getting absolutely ruined at the end. At least all the other female characters so far have had some point where they were useful - even Patsy! But no, not Betty Ross, she just whines about how much she loves Bruce while hanging off Doc Samson's arm.

This was an impressive effort by the creative team. I liked the way this advanced the overall narrative; something that's been all too rare in the majority of titles in the Order in the early 1970s. Ramifications like this, when done properly, can be a source of new and fresh stories that keep the book alive and vibrant.

I agree with everyone about the bunker being destroyed a little too quickly. @leisch: two issues ago you wanted to see Congress arguing about the Hulk; you just got your wish, my friend. Of course, you can't fully blame the Army here; blame the contractors that thought ordinary concrete and metal were enough to keep a big green rage monster cooped up.

Havok and Polaris were also excellent in this issue. Who knew that Havok would have such character development in an issue of the Hulk? Hopefully this is followed-up on. But Lorna? I know she's not real experienced in super-powered combat, but girl? Those bikes are metal. What is your mutant power? Magnetism. Is any of this getting through?

4 stars. Especially that last page; devastating to Betty. But I guess that's what she gets for playing three different guys.
