Issue Review
   July 16, 2015
#203 resolves the ongoing storyline in Deus Ex Machina style.
Proving, again, that Odin is a dick. Sigh.
But the battles are fun.
I could understand how the Young Gods came into being, but I wasn’t clear on how exactly this stopped the Bad Guy. Even after reading the final pages again.
And simply saying that Odin planned it all doesn’t cut it with me.
The issue ends with Thor angry at this father. Who, a few issues back, he was pulling out all the stops to save…
Complicated relationship they have…

I've been waiting for something like this to happen, it was a long time coming: Odin, the All Father, turning into a master plotter toying with the lives of men and gods!

It's a much better role for him than the Deus Ex role that saves everybody at the very last moment.

Kind of meh overall, but bonus points for Thor telling off Odin in the end.

Every issue where Odin makes everything alright again and takes away all memory of what happened gets 1 star from this point forward. That's the rule.

On the plus side, though, Hildegarde keeps getting cooler and cooler. In fact, she is cool enough now that I expect Marvel to ruin her character in some way very soon. In fact, ruined in the same way they are ruining Sif by having her dressed in a silly white robe and hanging off of Thor throughout all of these issues, instead of actually kicking butt.

I agree with Skalchemist's new rule. Now it looks like the next story will be Thor pissed the Old Man off and needs to be punished (but Odin will relent in a few issues) again.

So when will Sif return to her shieldmaiden life again? Interesting to see the start of the Young Gods though.

Art is kind of a step back to 1967, Colletta inks like he always did, it kinda looks like Don Heck was involved, too. This story is shaking out with a fair amount of lame as the obvious solution again proves to be the plot direction. Clearly this story could be better handled. The script is typical, but at least it is comprehend-able. The best part was the Don Blake change, seems like that facet of double identity doesn't get properly used enough these last few years.   I'm just gonna call him Odick now. Maybe Hella will punish me and send me to hell for this blaspheme, but Odick is a dick.

Thank goodness Thor was saved by that giant explosion that happens every time he transforms into Donald Blake... Guy must have gone through so many offices...
We have yet another comic that ruins the ending with the cover. As soon as I saw the 3 humans together for a mysterious reason, just like the 3 figures on the cover titled "They Walk Like Gods!"
As soon as you saw how devastated New York was, you knew Odin or some other force would undo it all in the end.

No explanation of what happened? Really? Urgh.

1 star. Nonsensical, overly-long, and meandering extended plots that are poorly placed. Uninteresting supporting characters. Just awful. Can’t wait for Conway to leave this title.

2 stars for the Prime-Ego while in the prime of his life using his prime energies at a prime location priming the New Gods!!!

Cover Me - The coming of an 70's progressive rock band!!!

Flashback - It looks like this issue changes when Heimdal/Heimdall arrived on Midgard...

Name Game - Also, Jackson Kimbal becomes Jason Kimbal...

Details - I wished someone would've bought an globe for the Marvel bullpen back in the day!!!

Annabelle - Missie Pompadour seems a little too happy...

'Nuff Said - "...perhaps then I'll know why one look into Heimdal's eyes changed my life..."-Carter Dyam

I thought I'd missed a page with Ego Prime disappearing, but no, it was just a terribly written section of the story and I have no idea what happened. And good thing Thor didn't always explode things when he transforms otherwise those early ones in the middle of a group of people would have been really awkward.
