Issue Review

There are some bad scenes here, taking away from two enjoyable stories.
The Nick Fury/Cap fight is ridiculous, as is the exchange between Cap and Falcon. Whole lot of OTT anger there. Makes all of them seem like spoiled children.
Speaking of children, the storylines are actually okay. The Falcon is tracking kidnapped kids and Steve is following up on something he saw while on patrol (a face from his past).
Both of those are good engines to drive stories, and there's a strong cliffhanger, it's just a shame about all the bickering between the main characters.

5/10

Surprisingly entertained by Batroc in this ish. He came out with some pretty good lines.

I was intrigued on the mystery villain, but I did not expect that. And I wasn't really pleased neither!

Wait, hold on, Batroc was hired by the STRANGER?! Sorry for the extra spoiler, but that's just so crazy silly I don't know how to process it.

Batroc is a mighty lame opponent for one of Marvel's key characters.

That's cute how they try (and fail miserably) to give a French 'feel' to Batroc.

Anytime Jim Mooney is on inks the art raises a level or two. That is the case here, even compared with the fantastic inks from JRomita Snr. Captain America has been one of the top books of 1972 and the trend continues here. The story seems to be shaping up reasonably, but the script is a step back in time. The faux francais is actually pretty funny and quite close to the reality when Les Francais parle anglais, so I actually loved that, mistakes and all. We do get a lot of characters announcing their actions, which is totally lame. There is one page with crazy panels too. (4-)

It seems like all Fury does lately is lash out at his friends and subordinates.

So a near omnipotent and all powerful being has a plan, but he is unable to complete it without someone that can...jump...?
You know, I completely forgot Steve is a cop too. How does that work out when he's off doing SHIELD missions?

Steve's gotta be one of the busiest guys around. Cop by day (how is that still a thing!?), superhero by night, full-time Avenger, and he's been running around all over the place with SHIELD for a while now.

And Steve, I hate to break it to ya. But SHIELDS super secret barbershop front isn't gonna be very secret if Captain America is going in and out in full uniform. You're not exactly what one would call inconspicuous.

Just 2 stars for Batroc taking a leap of faith!!!

Sidekick - Ever get the feeling that Redwing wants to claw out Falcon's eyes sometimes?!

Life Coach - I think Fury is using Odin's playbook!!

Hired Muscle - I guess Batroc got tired of using second string villains in his brigade!!

Leila Update - Yep, she's still nutty as a fruitcake!!!

Los Beatles - Are we sure Mrs. Santiago wasn't trying to start a Latino version of the Beatles???

Stranger Danger - Batroc you Gallic gasbag! Kidnapping kids??!!

'Nuff Said - "But enough of zese things. I grow tired of my voice..."-Batroc ze Leaper

I love Batroc. I mean, he's no Paste Pot Pete, but he's just so fun. And genuinely a mercenary, which is surprisingly refreshing.

I think the Stranger is appropriately named, at least for this story arc. A cosmic being hiring a foot-fighter to kidnap ghetto children? There's literally nothing "Stranger" than this! But it's good to see Cap and the Falcon fighting side by side again.

When it comes to Leila and her hate-filled diatribe, I can only think of two words for her mouth: duct tape.

And what's crawled up Nick's backside lately? Cap's done more missions for him as a free agent and now he wants SHIELD to boycott him? Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. I think you should try a different brand of laxative, Nick.

3 stars. I'm giving this one a chance, but there better be one heck of an explanation for this.

In the first few pages I thought "great, another terrible edition of Captain America where Nick Fury tries to steal the show and make it all about him", but after his little ridiculous meltdown it actually became a pretty good edition. Hopefully Fury will butt out of this comic for a while now and go and horn in on someone else - I hear that Iron Man is looking for someone to come along and ruin his comic too.

The big reveal at the end was...crazy? Like others have commented, why the hell would that entity need to hire Batroc - a dude who basically just jump-kicks people? And to steal children? Like "The Child Buyer" as the title of the next comic really has negative undertones, if you get what I mean...

+1 for Fury going to pieces and having a psychotic episode because Cap didn't want to be his BFF.
