I must say Master Mind has a great mutant power but it's always purly used

Ah! Unus and Blob in the cage were hilarious!

The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants return! (it's just Mastermind, Unus and the Blob though...don't know if that still counts) This issue was decent! Mastermind here was really scary! The Beast is almost unrecognizable here, I seriously miss the big words from him! And the plot was lame, these guys were never a threat to begin with it took only one X-Man to take care of them! Man, how I miss the X-Men already! (sigh)

The art looks Mad Magazine satire style in some parts.

That was interesting to say the least. I still enjoyed the writing, but the tone was a little off. I don't know exactly what it was, but I got taken out of the story somewhere near the last third.

The panel with Beast ripping into Mastermind is so awesome.

  MrRsBB Says:
  2014-12-29 03:58:24
Well, this art isn't so swell. Many panels without backgrounds, drawings of machine rooms are not well defined. The writing is an improvement over the rest of the Marvel U. Englehart dialogue is more realistic than the boastful posturing which is typical Marvel at this time. Unfortunately, this wraps up all too conveniently. (2+)

Wait a tick... Mastermind needs the diamond so the victims can see and touch it... Yet the Beast was able to touch and kill the Iron-Man illusion? Ummmm....

Pro-tip to any thieves being attacked by Beast: Pretend that you've gone crazy and he will leave you with your look and walk away.
The mystery girl was Vera right? The girl he was always double dating with Bobby? I never really got the feeling they were really into each other, and that they more or less dated because their friends were dating, so if that is her, it seems out of left field.

The trick here is to focus on the well above-average script and ignore the crummy art. I'm so excited to have hit Englehart in the Order.

I think he needs the real diamond so that he can duplicate it perfectly for inspection.

3 stars for the Beast running into some old friends!!!

Cover Me - I like how they try to show Mastermind using his powers!!

Writer's Block - Are they saying the Beast has amnesia from the shock of thinking that he killed Iron Man??!! And, how would Mastermind know that???

Whoopee Cushion - I sure hope the Blob wasn't gassy when he sat on the Beast!!

Tickets Please - That's a weird setup for a carnival. A bunch of people in stands watching the Freak Show just standing around...(p5,p3)

Miss America - What, no love for Patsy "Hellcat" Walker & Buzz "Mad Dog" Baxter???

Human Resources - I like Mr. Grant's take on Linda, as Hank's assistant among other things...

Unionized - Which Mutie did the construction guys beat up two years ago???

'Nuff Said - "Squeezed between your irresistible force and my immovable bulk--he squirts up like a soap out of a fist!"-Mr. B to Mr. U....I think these two do this way too much...

Poor Mastermind, no matter what he does, he always ends up a pathetic mess. Or a statue.

Better than I thought, but still not one of the better stories; I blame the villains! This iteration of the Brotherhood just has no bite without Magneto leading the bunch. But, these guys had their moments: Blob and Unus in the cage was pretty epic.

So that was Patsy Walker, eh? I was a little surprised to see her cross over from her modeling book into the Beast's feature, of all things. Still, pretty cool seeing her in her formative state.

3 stars. Starting to lose some momentum here, but still a pretty riveting overall series.

I like that we were treated to not just one, but two Beast squirting manoeuvres by Blob and Unus. Made even more uncomfortable by the repetition of the soap metaphor.

Like a bar of soap, guys. Get it? Squirted like a bar of soap...

Oh, the hero gets amnesia and is used by the villains...my favorite trope :-/

The story had some high points, but overall I was unimpressed by both the art and the dialogue.

The Beast in his furry form has such potential for a dramatically interesting character. Instead, they give him the same memory issues and persecution complex as the Hulk. Marvel, differentiate your characters, please.

  Marksman Says:
  2018-02-13 12:50:43
It's just hard to get rid of the image of the Blob standing around with practically no clothes on.

The ending of Mastermind in a puddle losing his mind will be used later in a much more classic storyline.
