Since Man-Thing's lack of comprehension could lead to him being a dull character, Steve Gerber makes the other cast members (eg. Jennifer Kale) carry the burden of telling the story. And a fascinating story arc it is. 9/10

Hey is it just me or did they got bamboozled, I thought they would take the book back home instead of going empty handed

Mongu! This time for real, not no stinking commie robot.

I can't take anything seriously with a name like Mongu. It sounds like a cohort of Bozo the Clown.

Alright, well that certainly...happened. Not sure why, or what it has to do with the demons invading, but it was interesting.
Can anyone explain to me why Jennifer is the comic is a conservatively dressed teenager, but on the front covers she's always a twenty-something slut from a hair metal music video?

it is interesting that we've hit the time period where Marvel is trying to sell regular comics (not just the black and white magazines for older audiences) by putting a scantily-clad woman in the cover. Hello, Bronze Age.

I was not looking forward to Man-Thing, but Gerber has done a great job.

I really like all the elements they are setting up for him. The swamp being a nexus, the cultist and the connection to Jennifer. This issue wasn't the strongest, but I want to know more about the book now and the world they visited.

Mongu strikes me as a cross between Lobo and Blastaar.

3 stars for the 1st app of Dakimh the Enchanter, others call him...Tim!!!

Credit Due - You can tell Gerber is a comic fan by having a real Mongu, and showing Delvadia, last seen in Daredevil #75-76!!!

Windows To Your Soul - You can tell little Howard is possessed by looking at his eyes!! (p2,p2)

Postal - I got a feeling that Miss Kelman would eventually attack her boss even without demon influence...

Road Rage - Having to listen to "Raindrops keep falling on my Head" would make me want to kill as well...

Gator Tail - Great scenes of the Man-Thing swinging the gator, and that poor gator getting stuck in him!!!

Monty Python - When it showed the old ladies attacking the construction workers...are we sure that they weren't just Hell's Grannies??!!!

Decency - @duncanm: If you think her outfits on the cover are bad, just wait till you see her future "costume"!!

'Nuff Said - "Agony! Give us agony, Mongu!"-Denizen of Sandt

Just watch out for the gangs of Keep Left signs if Hell's Grannies are out.

As I read the fight scene between Man-Thing and Mongu, I was waiting for the moment where Mongu was going to hit his "fear-point" so Man-Thing could burn him. I'm really hoping this series doesn't get too predictable.

Other than that, a potentially interesting arc brewing here. The demons making people get violent could pose quite a challenge for Man-Thing and Jennifer, and the diversionary conflict with Mongu, Dakimh and the Emperor wasn't too annoying a sidetrack.

3 stars. If you guys think Jennifer dressed provocatively on the covers here, wait'll you see her in her witch costume!

Mongu is just pawn in game of life.

Three stars.
