-Not too shabby. I'd much rather read this kind of stuff than those sh*tty anthology alien invasion stories.

I don't see how the human torch is more effective then gasoline and a match.

Huskies was apparently slang in 1939 for either muscular people or menial laborers.

The torch is awfully quick to figure out that "Sardo is a low down Racketeer"

He also casually burned a guy to death. And bragged about it.

Sardo has a laboratory? Is he a Racketeer Scientist?

This story made a lot more sense in Marvels #1.

After re-reading this story, I find that the human torch is one sadistic android.

Good story The Torch story takes as much space as a modern comic story. Got to love that 68 pages for a dime.

Marvel Comics #1 was published on November 10th 1939 not October even though the cover says October

4 stars for the 1st app of the Human Torch and the lighting of the Golden Age!!!

Cover Me - Great image of the sadistic little imp!!!

Rev. Horton Heat - Some Professor, he makes an synthetic man with one major flaw, and a air tight tube with a leak in it...Also, the poor guy looks like he's either suffered a major stroke, or rejecting a face transplant!!!

Well Versed - I think that one reporter is really Herbie the Fat Fury! And, a wordsmith as well!!!

Eight Bells - Man, the pyrometer has come a long way! The one I use at work is a lot easier to carry around!!

Ye Gods - That one panicked pedestrian should be more worried about not having a nose!! (p4,p7)

Hot Off The Press - How is Sardo reading that paper?? (p6,p5)

Dirty Rat - @rocketraccoon: I agree with you about Sardo. There seemed to be a lot more to him than just racketeering! Also, it looks like Sardo could be a relative of the Man in the Yellow Hat, or Beavis...

Blue Fireballs - It mentions blue flames several times, but you never see said blue flames!!

?Question? - I looked up liquidar, and all I could find, was that it's Spanish for liquidate...

Dye Job - The Human Torch also seems to have the power of changing his hair color!!!

'Nuff Said - "It's ok!--You can take me--my body's cold!--"-Human Torch

After reading a ton of 616, it was cool to go back and see where marvel really kind of started. The golden age definitely has a different feel to its story telling. It was also interesting seeing the first appearance of the original torch.
