Issue Review

Good fun. A huge story, epic in scale, as Spider-Man and Thor find themselves unstuck in time (or something) and fighting the same foe at the same time while one is on Asgard and one is on an asteroid near Jupiter.
So... epic stuff.
Best bit? Thor admiring Spidey's courage.
6/10

Issue Synopsis

Peter Parker, in his civilian clothes, comes across a girl being attacked by a gang in a dark alley. Peter saves the girl, and the fight is observed by Thor. As the Peter and Thor talk, Thor notices a strange effect in the sky and quickly uses his hammer to create a protective vortex around himself and Peter. When Thor dispels the vortex they find that the whole world has been frozen and everything is reversed black and white, like a photographic negative. Peter changes into his Spider-Man costume just as a group of armoured trolls led by Kryllk the Cruel arrive on the scene. While Spider-Man and Thor battle the trolls, Kryllk reveals that attacking Earth is just a stepping stone to his goal of conquering Asgard, using a mystic device a called the Dark Crystal. Before Thor can reach Kryllk, all of the trolls vanish into thin air.

Thor and Spider-Man travel to Avengers HQ, but find that the Avengers are frozen in time, just like everyone else. However, the monitors reveal the Kryllkís trail has passed through Asgard. Since Thor is exiled from Asgard, he sends Spider-Man there alone while he himself journeys to Kryllkís lair at the end of the trail.

Spider-Man arrives in Asgard to find that, as on Earth, time has stopped and everything is reversed.

Arriving at the end of the trail, Thor finds himself on a barren asteroid. He smashes his way inside the asteroid where he discovers Kryllk, his trolls, and the crystal. There is a big fight, but Kryllk is protected by the crystal. Thor is captured by the trolls and restrained.

In Asgard, Spider-Man is also fighting trolls. He sees Kryllk and the crystal in front of him and fights his way through to them. He tries to punch Kryllk but his fist disappears into what is actually just an image of the troll. However, at the same moment on the asteroid, the real Kryllk feels Spider-Manís punch as an agonising pain his chest.

Everything disappears and Thor and Spider-Man, along with the crystal and the defeated trolls, reappear in the home of the Watcher. The Watcher reveals that the crystal is his and was stolen by Kryllk. He sends Thor and Spider-Man home before disposing of the trolls.

Marvel Team-Up has been very average so far. It seems like it would have so much potential, too. I suspect it's because they try and contain all the stories in a single issue.. that never usually creates anything particularly special.

The Watcher saves the day for Thor (& Spidey) this time. Was Odin too busy?

-1 star for the *lazy* ending. Otherwise, this issue was actually enjoyable.

Weird ending. Weird story. But Spidey being in Asgard was cool.

So Thor now knows who Spider-Man really is. Isn't that a big deal?

One of the nice things about the Marvel Team up stories is that Spidey is finally getting a little bit of respect from his fellow heroes. And I don't know if you can necessarily say that Thor knows who spider man really is, other than that he knows that he's a young white guy...which is 90% of superheroes.

I'm a bit concerned that Thor would just take any random kid he bumps into into some warped reality with scores of dangerous enemies at every corner. Sure, this time it was Peter Parker, but any other time there would be a dead teenager on Thor's hands and a bunch of angry civilians looking to instigate an early superhuman registration act.

2 stars for Thor and Spidey taking the lost shard back to the Dark Crystal!!!

Dolly - That mugging victim sure has some big hair!!

Trolls In Space - Interesting trolls that are shown. They look more human than troll; maybe a mixed race??

Tarnished - The Dark Crystal looks more like a egg...

Croak - Funny that Spidey calls Thor, Froggy, especially with what will happen to Thor years later!!!

Deposit - Why would the Watcher leave a powerful object in a cave under Asgard??

'Nuff Said - "Ump! Frisky devils, aren't they?"-Swingin' Spidey

woah, thatís some head of hair she has (5:1)

5:4-6 I lie the bit with the hand

Thor calling Peter out on his masochism is great

Why is Peter, even when dressed as Spider-Man, always obno towards Thor? It kind of makes sense, it would be nice if writers had kept it in the future. Peter just canít deal with the ďgodlyĒ reminds him to much of his own human failings

11:4 is a hilarious panel, that Troll is going beyond ďfriskyĒ into oral sexual assault

I write these as I read, but iím pretty positive that i will not be the first Gelfling comment

17:4 Spider_Man calls Thor froggy, you never know what ay have inspired Walt

Deus Ex Uta

Now reading the comments and Iíll leave my overlap with @Locust75

This was a fun little romp; typical Marvel Team-Up fare, not much else. I was pretty struck when Peter pretty much revealed himself to Thor as if the thunder god already knew Spidey's identity. Peter's slightly flippant attitude toward Thor was also interesting; Thor didn't tolerate it back when they first met in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #3. Guess Thor's used to it now.

3 stars.

How did Thor think he was going to get Spider-Man back from Asgard? He couldn't go there and I don't think I'd be relying on Odin to be nice.

I like "casual Thor" on the fire escape.

Also, the mugging victim really seemed like she was up to something that would be relevant later, but nope....
