The Mole Man is actually a pretty tragic character.

This was ok but it was so unrealistic that Reed knew that Moleman was not watching yet, but soon would be, and thus he gets Sue to waste her power- she was already weak- turning them all invisible so that he wouldn't see them when he turns his monitor on. I hate contrived plot devices like this that create annoying plot holes more than they entertain. At least Roy (through Reed) explained why Johnny flew into a homicidal rage.

Sue finally let Reed have it. Page 8 was worth an extra star just for that reason.

Great little arc that shows Roy's ability to unite different threads of a comics universe to blend into a cohesive history.

I'm sick of Reed's most used line, "There's no time to explain!" How about you just yell out, "It's Ben!"

Seems to be a fair hat tip to Kirby here; Big John really emulating The King as much as possible. This story has a valiant premise; yet very poorly though up by Ben Grimm. The FF don't have much stamina, they all tire so easily!? The Thing's further character development is nice to see. The twist in the plot is quite predicable; and so is the double twist. This was entertaining and the art is really well done. Script didn't get in the way too much, maybe there were a few too many announcements if actions. (4-)

It felt like a filler arc.

So Mole Man is blind, right? And he uses echo-location to see? So how does he keep tabs on the Fantastic Four using a video monitor?
I might agree with Moley being a tragic character if it weren't for the fact that he is trying to commit genocide because he is lonely. If he were only ugly on the outside like Ben, that would be different.

Pretty much filler, sure, but I liked the twists and betrayals, plus Sue finally standing up for herself is worth something.

3 stars for Fantastic Four getting involved in a game of stones!!!

Grapes Of Wrath - I do like the Mole Man being a wine connoisseur!!!

Snail's Pace - Funny images of Reed carrying Ben!!

Gallery - Nice pinups of FF's friends and foes!

Vintage - I think Jay Leno has a Magma-Cruiser in his car collection!!!

Retaliate - Trapped Sue should've put the Mole Man in a air bubble and put the squeeze on him!!

No Prize - Uh, the Moloids could talk way back in Tales to Astonish #80!!!

No Prize II - Sue calls Rev. Mandiz...Mandis!!!

King Me - I don't know what Mole Man's crying about? With Tyrannus out of the way and Kala his prisoner...he rules the underground!!!

'Nuff Said - "No one was meant to rule by Tyrannus' side! No one is good enough--brilliant enough--beautiful enough for that!"-Tyrannus Rex

At least we got further development on the politics of the Marvel underground society. But man, Mole Man sure did get the short end of the stick that time, after what Kala did to him. That was cold, girl. Speaking of Mole Man, I guess Johnny's lecture didn't take (issue #90); not that I'm surprised.

I'm also watching with interest the increasing tension between Reed and Sue. I think Roy has a trial split in mind between these two.

2 stars. Actually one of the uglier FF arcs I've seen, and I'm not just referring to the Mole Man.

Locust75 is a Marvel historian. I wouldn't recognize a retcon if it rewrote my childhood.

Here at the cusp of the Bronze Age, there's nothing like the Human Torch hypnotizing some Moloids to remind us the Silver Age is still alive an well.

Anyone else get the Dr Zachary Smith vibe from Rev Mandiz? Could totally see him being voiced by Jonathan Harris.
