This issue has so much of why I love reading comics. For every failed DD arc, there's a dynamite Fantastic Four arc coming up in the Order. Johnny flying off in a huff (poor sap, wait 'til he sees how Crystal's been missing him.) Sue coming to her senses. Reed being Reed. And finally a lot of Ben, can't wait for Two-in-One and his solos.

Best FF issue in quite a while. Thundra is great, so far!

  Flaidermaus, Roy? Really?

An extra star for the combo of Sue really letting Reed have it for being a patronizing jerk, and the Thing's expression when Johnny says he is leaving.

Extra star for Sue telling off Reed, and Sandman getting rid of his stupid costume.

This is another fine and dandy display. Ben Grimm has been the focus since Roy Thomas started writing this title and that continues here. These are some of the best ever drawings of the human torch as well. This book still feels like the top Marvel title. The script was easily digested. He we go on a multiple plot ride, the one thing Roy is good at is continuity. All good here. (4)

Thank God Sandman got rid of that horrendous costume. It made Calvin Klein cry.

I had no clue that Thundra came up this early in the order she always felt like an 80s creation to me. Oh well, just means I was pleasantly surprised.
And yes, Sandy is out of that stupid costume!

From now on I'm going to be siding with Sue over Reed in their domestic disagreements.

4 stars for the 1st app of Thundra the Barbarian!!! I was hoping to see Ariel and Ookla as well...

Bat Mane - @skalchemist: at least Flaidermaus looks cool. Also, that one Inhuman to the left of Black Bolt in the foreground looks creepy!!!

Big Bad Mama - I love the image of Sue Storm storming off!!!

Natural - Like others have said about Sandman ditching his costume; he usually wears purple when with the Frightful Four!!

Pasted Himself - Funny scene of the Thing spanking Trapster!!!

The More You Know - I had to look up conies!

'Nuff Said - "Only the Invisible Girl can make parts of other people's anatomy simply--vanish."-Proud Pappa Reed

I know we are pretty numb to Roy Thomas and his special brand of he-man woman hating but was it actually used to make a point? We have Ben's ridiculous comments about lady drivers and rescuers, Sue is just freaking done, I assume Crystal is not pining for Johnny, and even Agatha and Alicia are stepping back.

At the same we time we get Thundra and Medusa (previous issue we had the venemous female). RT has a long way to go before I think Ben's comments are anything but standard Marvel misogyny, still everything kind of hangs together.

Wow, great issue, but I also have to take issue with Roy's rampant misogyny here. It seemed like he was trying to make it an "in" thing to slam women here, and not just to make Sue the bad guy for leaving. In fact, I think it's great she's growing some backbone and putting Reed in his place.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I almost feel bad for the Torch, knowing what's coming. Sure, he's a hotheaded jerk and a tool, and he should've seen this coming. Sigh, kids....

But easily the highlight of the issue was the fight between the Thing, Medusa, and the newly reconstituted Frightful Four. Thundra is a great addition to the evil FF! I like her attitude toward the Thing; it should be fun to see where she got the notion that beating him is her life's mission.

4 stars, but I'm a little generous here. The misogyny prevented this from being a 5-star affair. Other than that, this is the type of story you read Fantastic Four for.

Huh, so apparently the Sandman is more liberal towards women's rights than any of the Fantastic Four men. Go figure.

Sue comments (on page 10) that she'll be doing things on her own. I guess that means Reed will have to plan on doing things on HIS own for a while as well... ;P
