  • The Hudson River really had bright-colored waters back in the 40's!

  • Namor's ankle wings defy all laws of gravity and aerodynamics.

  • Namor has seconds about killing the pilot so he opens his parachute before he throws him off the plane. There is hope for the Prince after all.

  • The Burgos / Everett collaboration yielded a magnificent result, by combining the best qualities of their art.

  • The transparence of the translite cylinder is efficiently rendered when Namor takes it in the lab.

  • Best story so far.

Wow, my first Four Star give-out on the Golden Age reading order. A thoroughly enjoyable read. Just a couple of niggles:
- Why does Torch say the aerial bombs are a mistake when they were clearly deliberate? Just covering himself cos Subby didn't die? That'd be weak if true...
- Why does Namor's fist go through the Torch? , In flame form is he unsolid?
- One again, the sudden conscience saving that pilot's life seems a bit of a swing from his deadly attacks on the city last issue. This guy not only isn't a child, he just tried to kill Subby, and he still saves his life!

That was one of the best issues so far in the Golden Age. An awesome fight scene and the extra pages really helped do the story justice. It didn't feel rushed like a lot of the other golden age stories.

4 stars for the Water-Rat vs the Fire-Bug!!!

Cover Me - Terrific cover!!! Gladly pay 10 cents to read this epic tale!!!

Splash - Sweet splash page as well!!!

Sock It To Me - Great image of Namor punching Torch off Lady Liberty!!!

Burst - Although, the bubble bit was a bit weak...

Impatient - BAH! The Torch has no time for opening doors or windows!!!

Stagnant - @RobinHoodMtl: About the colored water, are you talking about when the Torch had his flames covering the reservoir??

My Two Cents - @kungfufan: The Torch said the bombs were a mistake because they knocked Namor out of the water instead of killing him! Also, I got nothing on how Namor punched through the Torch...

Plucked - Interesting that Namor's little wings get burned...

No Prize - First they say that Betty and the Commissioner's Assistant met the Torch, and later it's Betty and the Commissioner himself that meet the Torch. It's the same man!!!

Coincidence - Hmmm...this issue there's a Torpey Chemicals, and last issue there was a Torpey's Tamales!!!

Standoff - Nice cliffhanger ending...I wonder how many kids wrote in??

'Nuff Said - "Don't worry-this is police business!"-Human Torch

On my second reading now, and two further things jump out at me: First, that whole bubble scene, from beginning to end, is ridiculous. Second, how thoughtful it is of Human Torch not to damage the studio floor... right after burning a hole through the roof!
