Good story. Nothing fancy, but good.

A foe from the past wants to gain revenge so he sends someone to do the job. More or less. The reasoning behind getting the team back together makes sense and there is something very cool about seeing these guys together again. Or, in this case, just Doc Strange and The Hulk.

The ending, and the method of defeat, is also very good. A great start to a great series. 6/10

Messy plot, but strangely enticing nonetheless.

The Hulk has some great lines in this one. "Get up demon, Hulk wants to fight you some more!" That's golden.

The characterization of Hulk in this is better than in his own title. And I see this is Englehart again, well done!

Sal's definitive horror-like style is the art focus here. Lots of empty backgrounds and not much finesse to the inks. As forgettable as this story is, Englehart seems to have manufactured a long standing sub plot crossover which is the most interesting part. Script is a slog to read, Hulk's lines seeming the most out of character. Not a great start, but hopefully setting up something worth reading. (2)

I can already tell this series is aiming to be a comic relief of sorts based on the characters and their personalities. I like it.

This still seems like an odd combination to me. Hulk and Namor generally don't get along with others and Strange feels like he works best alone because of the different places he visits.

I hope they actually come to the decision to form their group, even loosely, because right now every story starts with some contrived excuse to get them all together. Also hoping the final page is telling us the Surfer is joining soon too.
While I understand that it kind of is what Hulk is, but for someone that seems to be the one usually pushing for this group, maybe Strange should stop addressing him as "monster".
I also really like that they show you some of the breadcrumbs leading to this story, suggesting that maybe this was planned longer ago than first thought.

I have a soft spot for the Nameless Ones, because I really enjoyed the way that story was developed after Doctor Strange's title was cancelled - and I like that it continues to develop! In a sense it's the origin story for the Defenders.

I love the relationship forming between the Defenders, and I'm sure the Surfer will be a benefit to this book.

3 stars for the Defenders celebrating getting their own title by going to Jersey!!!

Credit Due - I like Englehart using the Undying Ones and even the Omegatron!!!

Proper - Finally Strange's container for his Orb of Agamotto gets a name!!!

Dud - The Demon of the Dark was really something wasn't he...

The Fault In Our Stars - I really don't see Strange and Banner holding back Necrodamus when he handles Namor and Hulk with ease! Also, how bad is Necrodamus? He stabs Hulk not once, but twice!!!

'Nuff Said - "And, of sounds...the infernal pounding of the Hulk is most unpleasant!"-Dr. Strange

I'm looking forward to seeing the Defenders stretch out now that they have their own book. Should be interesting.

Englehart used elements of the prior stories in Marvel Feature in a cool way here. It does give the feel that they were setting up this run, doesn't it?

3 stars. Nice solid story, even if the pacing is a little chaotic at times.

Doctor Strange better be a bit more careful, or Hulk may just decide to smash him. Although I'm really liking them working out a way to actually use Hulk in a group.

Coming right on the heels of Captain America #153-156, I was expecting great things from Englehart and Buscema. This was good, but not up to that level in terms of art, dialog, and pacing.

Admittedly, I might have scored this better if I read it someplace else in the order.
