Issue Notes

Quicksilver's presence in this issue is a continuity goof. It's clear from information in Marvel Team-Up #11 that this arc takes place after Fantastic Four #129-132, and therefore Quicksilver has already left the Avengers.

Issue Review
   September 18, 2013
Spider-Man and Iron Man have an amusing partnership in #9, which has one of those time-travel stories I love.

The heroes meet a guy with a goofy name and instantly trust EVERYTHING he tells them. I love when that happens. Luckily, he's basically telling the truth. Even if he's not quite telling the whole story. It's a fun romp. 6/10

Issue Synopsis
Avengers Mansion is being hit by a strange earthquake and when Iron Man arrives to investigate he is prevented from entering the immediate area of the mansion by an invisible force field.

Peter Parker is in his room in the apartment that he shares with Harry Osborn, watching Iron Man’s attempts at penetrating the force field on his TV. He thinks that Iron Man could use some help but decides that he doesn’t want to get involved. However, when Harry burst into the room to complain about the noise from the TV, and the two of them have a row, Peter decides to change into Spider-Man after all.

When Spider-Man arrives at Avengers Mansion, Iron Man at first says that he doesn’t need any help. However, when a hole suddenly appears in the force field, both heroes leap through it. They find themselves in a strange kind of limbo where two futuristic spaceships are involved in an intense battle. One of the ships is destroyed and entering the other ship, Spider-Man and Iron Man find themselves guests of Zarrko the Tomorrow Man. Zarkko explains that he had been battling an enemy from the distant future who had conquered the 23rd century. It also turns out that this invader has somehow captured the Avengers from the 20th century and imprisoned them in the 23rd.

Transporting Iron Man and Spider-Man to the 23rd century, Zarrko shows them the fortress where the Avengers are being held prisoner and the two heroes leap into action in an attempt to free their friends. They fight their way through the guards and force entrance to the fortress. However, Iron Man is put out of action by a huge robot that damages his armour. Spider-Man defeats the robot and he and the injured Iron Man move deeper into the fortress.

Meanwhile, Zarrko enters the fortress himself, delighted that his enemies appear to have been defeated and that now the fortress will belong to him and he will control everything.

Spider-Man and Iron Man reach the heart of the fortress and discover the Avengers held in stasis. They also come face to face with the leader of the invaders from the far future: Kang the Conqueror. With a wave of his arms, Kang unleashes forces that immediately knock out both Spider-Man and Iron Man, telling them that when they awake they will slaves in Kang’s army. Behind Kang, Zarrko appears, a weapon in his hand. He tells Kang that he is now in control of the fortress and it is he, not Kang, who will attack the 20th century and make himself supreme ruler.

At the beginning of the issue, I was thinking "We don't need to worry about the Marvel Time Paradox, because we have the order." And then Quicksilver was in one of the Avengers' cells and my mind imploded.

Yeah, the Quicksilver thing bothered me too. I wonder if there's a way to kick these issues earlier in the Order. Also the bickering between Spidey and Iron Man for no reason was annoying.

  Durango55 Says:

Quicksilver's appearance in the cells can easily be explained by Kang mistakenly abducting Quicksilver thinking he was still an Avenger. No need to move this story in the Order, unless the following issue adds details contradicting this premise.

3 stars for the first salvo in the conundrum wars between Marvel's time travelers!!!

Flatfoot - Boy, that one cop sure doesn't like so called heroes running around in long johns does he?!!!

Odd Couple - I think Harry is really mad because of Peter sporting such awesome pants!!!

Oh Snap - @jwerth: I agree about the bickering! It's more what I expect out of Stark and Jarvis instead!!!

No Prize - Zarrko responds to Spideys question, but calls him Iron Man!!! (p9,p6-p10,p1)

Complex - That giant robot is interesting yet annoying...

Timequake - Cool to see the first hints of time storms!!!

'Nuff Said - "..."Star Trek" lives!"-Spidey

And the cover looks like a shot from Spiderman: Homecoming.

  Russ Says:

At least they call it "The Tomorrow War" instead of "The Time War." Because, I don't see any British Police call boxes or little R2D2-like robots going around yelling "Exterminate! Exterminate!"

But you'd think after the many times Iron Man's had heart problems he'd be a dead man walking by this point. I mean, ouch! That was one heckuva haymaker that tall robot landed on his chest.

2 stars. With Zarrko and Kang both involved, I can just smell the confusing time paradoxes now.

Zarko the Man-Frog Lives! Oops, wrong Zarko...

As of this writing 12/12/17 the next couple of issues of MTU aren't in Unlimited so I only get the first part.

Not bad but does Tony have to be such a jerk?

What? There's strife in Osbornlandia?

Three stars.

Ummm... when did Marvel Team Up turn into an early Silver Age DC book?

  Marksman Says:
  2018-03-24 15:22:14
Does Zarko have some kind of mind influence powers? Cuz Spidey and Iron Man just blindly taking his word for the situation as he presents it.

Looks like the cop was ready to shoot first and ask questions later. What was he going to do, shoot an earthquake?

  JonahBlack Says:
  2018-03-27 11:15:30
This was awful. The art was awful. The dialog was awful. The pacing was awful.

Nothing made me care about anything that happened, and everyone, from the cop, to Iron Man, to Spider-Man was just a jerk to everyone around them. There's a fine line between snarky and mean, and this was no where near that line.

I should be disappointed that the next two parts aren't on unlimited, but I'm actually relieved.
