Very enjoyable story.

The Hulk is cast in a most heroic role, in this tale, as he stumbles in the middle of a crisis and vows to help the locals rescue their friend.

The first half of the adventure is a straight-forward slugfest, which leads to a nice twist and a further confrontation.

Hulk does his best, but - ultimately - the story builds to a swift, downbeat ending.

One of the better ones. 9/10

I know its part of the Wendigo lore, but cannibalism still is still a shock to see in a comic.

Awesome that they explored cannibalism. Great classic issue! WEN-DI-GO!

To think that only a few years before, they could not put zombies and werewolves in their stories. Now, we have both, plus people burning and cannibalism.

The series is exhibiting real pathos not seen in any of the other titles (at least until ASM 121).

Refreshing to see the Hulk lose, for all intents and purposes. Sometimes it's not all about strength. Wonder if that will affect Hulk any going forward.

Where was Steve Englehart when they brought Gerry Conway on board?

Wow, Georges Baptiste was pretty lucky that Hulk wandered along when he did. Imagine being trapped in that hole, while the Wendigo sleeps outside, knowing what your fate will be when he wakes up. And you figure, if he was starving when Paul became Wendigo, he's STILL starving being trapped since there was no food to begin with. He looked pretty desperate, that's for sure.

An effective introduction to the Wendigo!

4 stars for the 1st appearance of the WEN-DI-GO, who immediately tells Hulk to take off, eh!!!

Snow Job - It would've been better if an avalanche took out Betty and Talbot!!!

Fink - The Wendigo looks a little off in this issue...like a giant white man-rat!!

Inside Out - I'm surprised Hulk didn't try to open Wendigo up to find Paul...

Ever play the video game X-Men: Wolverine's Revenge? Wendigo was a very cool villain (excuse the pun) in the game. Hard to play, even harder to beat, but the game was awesome.

I interpreted Wendigo as sitting on him like a mother hen, like Bugs and the Abominable Snowman. Except he's going to be eaten alive rather than being hugged and squeezed. His name was even Georges!

Have to admit, I'm pretty impressed with this one. I didn't expect such a dark story here, but that ending was....Incredible. (There, I said it.) And to reinforce what @duncanm said, it was actually interesting to see Hulk with a problem that just didn't require brute strength to solve. But maybe it was over and done for Paul before the Hulk even showed up in Canada two issues ago.

Also interesting to see Talbot and Betty here, when she still doesn't know Bruce is still around. It's the moment of realization you live for....

4 stars. This was a pretty awesome first appearance for the Wendigo, but you have to wonder why there aren't any other Wendigos in the Canadian wilderness, given what it takes to become one!

You have to worry about the state of your marriage when your wife can't even be trusted to know her ex is still alive.

Funny how the story alluded that Paul was a cannibal without explicitly stating it. ("Paul was...eating..."). What if he just found some poutine and did not share? How rude and un-Canadian. No wonder Paul became the Wendigo.

Really excellent story! Steve Englehart continues to be a worthy successor to Archie Goodwin.

I've been a fan of Herb Trimpe here on Hulk, but I feel like in the last few issues his style changed a lot, and not necessarily for the better.
