It was a nice story, it's clear that they worked this out. It is almost to direct and short, but it poses theyer side.

I'm a bit surprised with how little of CAs origin has been retconned

Great story that sets the ground for a wonderful new hero. The mask looks a little weird without its neck part in this issue. Beautifully drawn for a first issue. It IS the first Kirby super-hero story, right?

And were there really mascots in army camps?!!

Pretty short for an origin story, but of course it will be retold over and over again later on in more depth. The beginning of one of my favorite superheroes!

Well well well... So Kirby is THE original Captain America illustrator? And my, how his style has changed over the years! Bucky's a lot younger than '60s Bucky, which puts into perspective Cap's feelings of loss for the boy at the hands of Zemo... more like the loss of a son or young brother compared to what most contemporaries are saying of the '60s Cap's feelings of loss verging on homosexual... And wait, one more surprise! What's this? Bruce Banner's love interest is also a '40s "sentinel of liberty"? She's a lot older than we thought! :-)

So, is the super serum super because it increases strength and intelligence to superhuman levels, or to really-high-but-not-actually-super levels? Is his strength on a par with other superhumans like, say Spider-Man or the Scorpion? No? But he's a lot stronger and cleverer than your average Joe? And intelligence, so he's smarter than most. I doubt he's smarter than many of the non-superhuman intellects out there. This question relates back (forward?) to his feelings of inadequacy amongst his fellow Avengers mid-60s.

The most iconic cover and most important issue (barring MAYBE Marvel Comics #1) so far in the order! This is Simon and Kirby's most major addition to the Marvel Universe, at least until Kirby gives us Fantastic Four #1.

This is an important book, of course, but it's also a great example of Kirby's strengths as an artist. I love the sinister, secretive look from the old shopkeeper. And, Cap's very first action sequence is a great 1-2 punch action scene. He gives you more dramatic action in just a couple panels than you get from the majority of Golden Age stories in 8 pages.

And, I'm amazed by how much Cap's origin story has stayed the same over the years. If it ain't broke, don't retconn it.
