#27 finds Captain Marvel in battle with Super Skrull. There's also a lot of pontificating about war. Which doesn't quite work. 5/10

Art reminds me a bit of Neal Adams, which means it is excellent. Writing is good as well. It usually is when you can't predict where it is going.

More dynamite stuff. Clearly Mike Friedrich's writing is immensely improved by Starlin's plots and artwork.

Great stuff. I love Starlin's unconventional storytelling with the elaborate frames and extra text.

Great issue! Starlin is hitting his stride it would seem.

This was good, but that was despite, not because of, Mike Freidrich. He is still odious.

I noticed Starlin slipped in various aliens from the Marvel Universe as part of Thanos's army.

Latitude 91? So it's north of the North Pole? I guess if anything could accomplish that it would be the Cosmic Cube.

Okay, I'm done with this series. It tries to be so serious, but comes across as convoluted and cheesy.

Anyone notice that Death looks like a Jawa?

I'm a big fan of the cosmic universe and Thanos, so I'm loving this arc. I can only imagine it's going to get better and better each issue..I hope.

I'm enjoying this arc...but every time Rick Jones shows up, it drags it down. I know the Captain's hair change is coming up, hopefully that is indicative of other things changing as well.
I love that Thanos leaves a useless glass sphere with his second in command to fool him into feeling safe and leaving him alone.

This was excellent, particularly the artwork and page layouts, but also the shading of Mentor's character and the focus on the impact of war, even on the winners (I imagine Vietnam-vet Jim Starlin had something to do with that). Drax is still pretty weird though.

Really liking thus arc, but I do feel like the early Mar-vell personality never had a solid transition to this version. I don't miss the old one, it's just very abrupt. A reboot without a real reboot I guess.

  Russ Says:

Whoa. It has been way too long since Mar-Vell has kicked butt like that. The battle with the Super Skrull was incredible! This is where Starlin is making a name for himself and he's really delivering the goods.

Rick's presence may be a little heavy on exposition at times but I don't think enough to weigh the arc down. But I'm starting to think that nega-band link is getting more and more superfluous. Time to grant these two a long awaited divorce.

4 stars. Rick kept it from going 5 stars but we still have quite an epic brewing here.
