Issue Review

The bad guy is a bit tedious but there's a nice sense of adventure in #141 with the team on the run on an alien landscape. Other than the rants of Annihilus, the issues loses marks for a very OTT ending, with Mister Fantastic forced to do something to save Franklin and The World and, as a consequence of this, the others turn on him. Not a great finish. 5/10

Usually the humor in comics is good or at least ok, but Thing's crack about All in the Family was completely mis-timed.

Sue is the one at fault here. Reed only did what he had to do. Forget the blonde girl, Mr. Fantastic! Divorce Sue Storm and marry the confident Medusa!

  That was a harsh ending.

They finally have a legitimate reason to split. I'd like to see the situation that will finally bring them together again.

I'd never in my life be able to shoot my own child.

I honestly don't see why everyone is so mad at Reed. He just saved the lives of every single person in the UNIVERSE, including them, and he had to take the painful step of shutting down his son's mind to do it. Too bad he doesn't know any smart people that would be able to help him restart his brain...oh wait he knows 20.

Great cover. I'm trying to remember the origins of the star-eyed child motif, it's quite creepy. I'm interested in seeing how Franklin develops over the decades.

Conway wrote both the death of Gwen Stacy and the lobotomizing of Franklin Richards. Hmm...

I agree with others comments about the treatment of Reed. Seems the rest of the team aren't even considering that it was tough for him at all.

Another thing that really frustrates me about this issue is that last issue and beginning of this one they can't harm Annihilus at all, but later, they are able to defeat him just because they snuck up from behind? I don't buy it.

Recommended listening for this story, or at least the ending: "I'd Rather Have a Bottle in Front of Me (Than a Frontal Lobotomy)" by Randy Hanzlick. You Dr. Demento fans know this one. Alternatively, we could also go with the Ramones' immortal classic "Teenage Lobotomy"!

I found it a little hard to believe Ben, Johnny and Medusa took Annihilus down so easily after the way they were nailed last issue. Inconsistencies like this have dogged Conway's run throughout his career so far. But the ending? Yeah, that was pretty brutal. I see what Reed had to do while having to think on his feet, but I also see that emotions in general were running pretty high among everyone else after their Negative Zone conflict, and they were probably traumatized by the sight of Reed shooting his own son, so I get their condemnation of him, too. If Conway has one strength in his writing, it's that he can capture an emotional moment fairly well when he sets his mind to it. The death of Gwen Stacy is a perfect example of that, and he did it fairly well here too. @Durango55, whatever you were thinking in your post, I highly doubt you're wrong, my friend.

4 stars, not counting the ones that left poor little Franklin's eyes.

That was an intense ending. 5 stars just for that. I could never imagine pointing a weapon at my own child.

I don't know that the issue is that he shot his own son, it's that he didn't even hesitate. And when the complaint against him for the rest of the team has always been that he's too wrapped up in his experiments, this would hit so much harder.

Back on form FF! I may even start looking forward to your appearances in the order again!

4 stars.

Although, Reed shouting about how they were using subterfuge was a little ridiculous haha.

I don't think Reed went far enough! He should've shot Sue and the rest of the team as well. So that he could finally get some peace and quiet!!!
