#142 is basically a solo Thing story. Meanwhile, most of the characters behave in annoying ways. Creating false drama. But, the Thing battles are enjoyable, and the last pages leave me wanted to see what happens next... 5/10

George Lucas stole this ending for his Cloud Ciity Vader scene in TESB, right?

I've always thought that that scene was stolen by Locas as well. Of course it could be an extreme case of synchronicity. I can't find anyone discussing this online. All that said, I thoroughly enjoyed Darkoth!

The Empire was my first thought as well. Excellent issue.

Gee what a shock we were given at the end of this issue. Thank the gods it wasn't spoiled by the cover stupidly giving it away. Whew!
Still think it's extremely stupid (for once) for everyone to be so angry with Reed. Yes, he mind wiped his son. But if he didn't the world would have been destroyed...including his son and all those angry at him.

All the inventions that Reed makes, he can't do something for his son? He isn't even trying. Stuck for ideas, then call Stark, Hank or Xavier to name a few.

Agreed people shouldn't be so pissed off.

A Conway story I genuinely enjoyed! I'm starting to get the sense that 'big reveals' in Marvel will forever be obviously telegraphed.

Rich Buckler draws the FF from my childhood - Beautiful!

Too bad the attraction between Medusa and Reed that is obviously there never get fully explored. Now would be a good time when Sue is temporarily out of the picture...

With everyone still angry at Reed, I can almost see both Ben and Johnny going "Let DOOM have 'im. Serves him right!" What a story that would make!

It's been a little while since we've seen DOOM. Other than a brief cameo during the Avengers-Defenders arc, the last time he practiced any villainy, it cost him $200. I bet he serves Reed cold lunch meat on day old bread.

I'm still allowing a pass here on everyone being angry at Reed though. Emotions are still running high and nobody's had a chance to really digest all that's happened and put it into perspective. I think this also explains why it hasn't occurred to anyone to seek help for Franklin just yet. I'm not sure Stark or Pym can help him, and Xavier's in hiding. If you think about it, it's almost a brilliant piece of writing by Gerry Conway.

(I can't believe I typed that last sentence. Now I think I see the horsemen of the apocalypse riding over the horizon....all 29 of 'em!)

However, Conway doesn't make the Reed-Medusa connection work at all. I know Reed and Sue are separated, and they're probably not considered as untouchable as a couple back then as they are now, but Medusa seemingly betraying Black Bolt? Maybe that's not what she intends but it's sure starting to look like that. I'm having a hard time with this plot point.

3 stars. Now I'm starting to remind myself as to why class reunions are a bad idea.

I'm still fine with people being angry that Reed didn't even hesitate to lobotomise his 2 year old son on the evidence of his eyes were glowing. What did they really have otherwise to say he was going to wipe out the world?
I just wish that if they were willing to write these Reed is a horrible person stories, like Sue leaving him and this, that they'd actually stick to it and not leave at least one person behind to tell him constantly that he hasn't actually done anything wrong. You can have the best intentions in the world, but at the end of the day shooting a 2 year old in the face is still wrong.
