Issue Synopsis

At the waterfront, the Young Allies witness a warship crashing through a freighter then into the docks. They decide to board the ship to investigate.

Inside, they find all the crew asleep. Then they come face to face with a man calling himself the Japanese Sandman and warning them heís going to put them to sleep. The kids attack him, but the man replies by throwing sand into their eyes.

The Young Allies run after the Japanese, but they trip on wire he placed on their way and he manages to escape to the docks, losing the boys.

Jeff finds a trail of sand which they follow until they are outside of town in a field where they can no longer trace the sand. They decide to split in two teams to look for the villainís lair.

Buckyís group find a cave guarded by a Japanese so they signal the other team. While they wait for their friends, Bucky, Knuckles and Whitewash get rid of the guard and enter the cave.

Alerted by the sound of Whitewash stumbling in the dark, the Japanese Sandman and his minions attack the trio who are overpowered and buried to their necks in a sandbox. He tells them he intends on destroying more American ships by putting their crew to sleep.

Meanwhile, the other Young Allies find the cave and hurry inside. While Toro distracts the Sandman with his flame powers, Tubby smashes the sandbox and sets his friends free. The leader douses Toroís flame with sand and runs away with his minions.

Later at night, a sailor guarding a ship is put to sleep with ether and some other guards are simply stabbed to death by the villains. Meanwhile, the Young Allies find the ship and the dead guards. They are soon taken by surprise and captured by the Sandmanís minions.

The boys are taken to a room filled with explosives, preventing Toro from flaming on. Before leaving, the Japanese Sandman lights the fuse of a pack of dynamite sticks. Bucky manages to drop a box of explosives so it cuts the fuse.

Breaking free from their bonds, they go after the Sandman and his followers. Finding them on the deck, the finally subdue them all and turn them over to naval command.

Holy crap! These kids all look like a reunion of 70-year old vets! They should be called the Old Allies! Very bad art, whoever did it.
