Issue Synopsis

Loki is trapped in Asgard and watches Dr. Strange in New York. Assuming a spirit form, Loki visits Dr. Strange with chains, claiming that Thor has imprisoned him. He convinces Strange to cast a spell to capture Thor's hammer so he can be free.

Once Dr. Strange is able to seize Thor's hammer with a black magic spell, he realizes that Thor himself is not evil, and he has been tricked by Loki and quickly recants his spell so that Thor's hammer is returned. Loki battles Dr. Strange, much stronger then him, even in his spirit form. Thor tracks the signal of the magic to Dr. Strange's Sanctum and seeks it out just as Loki is about to defeat Strange. Loki escapes just before Thor arrives, leaving Dr. Strange the victor, and unaware of the plot that took place.

'Nuff Said - "Thor? But--I thought that he fought only for right and justice!"-Dr. Strange

Pretty good story here, although the setup is somewhat lame. Strange almost gets his butt kicked, and is humbled in the process.

Thor looks completely ancient on Pg9/P3!

Thought this was going to be bad based on the fact they were selling it (cover) on the cameos. Turned out to be surprisingly good AND gave a new appreciation for Loki's power.

  • That’s my line – “The art of levitation is but one of many that I must master in order to be worthy of my calling!” (Doctor Strange) – Oh, Doc! Please don’t bother! Soon enough, every other hero will once more steal that trick from you!

  • On the splash, Doctor Strange and Loki are offering quite a nice light and dance performance! Best multimedia you could get in the sixties!

  • You know, I was somewhat skeptical of Ditko’s rendering of all Asgardians. But given his good job on anything out of the box, I should have trusted the man. He really impressed me, even at drawing faces. He’s still terrible at head-body proportions though!

  • Holy floatin’ crap! I cannot believe Strange fell for Loki’s BS!

  • Well that was rude! “Don’t mind me… I just want this object you’re holding. There… thaannk you! Try not to hit the ground to hard now! Ta-ta!”

  • My favorite Loki story so far because he proved he can be much more than a jackass and was this close to defeat Doctor Strange! 4 stars!

Thor fell for a really long time.

It was awesome seeing Strange reach his limit. Hopefully he will be more prepared in the future. It's also great seeing a mortal give Loki a run for his money.

It was not really a mortal that gave Loki the run....He was afraid to be spotted by Thor and the fact that Thor might then tell Odin about it. So actually it was again an immortal ;-)

Hmmm. The good Doctor isn't exactly shown to best advantage, this time out. You'd think any "Master of the Mystic Arts" would have at least a passing familiarity with the name "Loki," much less the unsavory reputation of same... particularly since said evil, magic-wielding entity shows up on Earth every two or three months, raising all manner of sorcerous ruckus. (What, this never came up during all those long years of training with the Ancient One? At all? EVER -- ?!?) And Strange doesn't manage to defeat his opponent, or even eke out a *tie, for pity's sake*; Loki ends up simply RUNNING AWAY, at the sight of Thor headed in his direction. Phooey!

Three stars. This feature can, and *has*, done much better.

This issue didn't hurt Strange at all. It really pushed Loki as a viable threat, which is good from where he was. Great read. Strange still seems strong, and now Loki does seem like a villain that would be plenty of trouble for anybody outside of Thor.
