ISSUE'S LETTERS
Dear Stan and Jack,

I have a question to ask you—why don't any of your villains die? For example take Doctor Doom—he's "died" four different times. But look at your villains like the Vulture, Dr. Octopus, Sandman and Electro—they all went to prison. Why don't any of your villains fall out of spaceships or get shrunken to micro size?

Chris Palmer, 20145 Wedgewood Dr.
Grosse Pointe 36, Mich.

Shame on you, Christopher! You've mined some Marvel mags! We've had villains who shrunk completely out of sight—and so many of our heavies have tumbled out of spaceships that they're becoming a menace to inter-stellar navigation! Anyway, we love our l’il villains! If you don't watch out, we'll kill a hero or two just to get even!

Dear Stan and Jack,

The AVENGERS is just now becoming a "normal" comic with issue #5. They’ve teamed up (#1), had the Hulk quit and swear enmity (#2), met Sub-Mariner (#3), brought Captain America back and made him a member (#4), and met the Fantastic Four (F.F. #25 and 26). Now they can settle down and battle their own little foes as well as their perennial nemesis, the Hulk. I agree with motion picture producer George Pal’s theory that “a hint of horror" is more effective than a constant barrage and so I liked the pacing you gave the Hulk in FF #12 and AVENGERS #5. However, don’t make him the lumbering clod that the movies’ Frankenstein monster became in the '40's. I think your best art occurs when Dick Ayers inks Jack Kirby's art but this team unfortunately cannot do Captain America (STRANGE TALES #114). You're drawing the Hulk poorly now. He looked the best in FF #12 and AVENGERS #1. The best drawings of him are: the cover of FF #12, the full-pager of him in FF ANNUAL #1 and the cover of AVENGERS #1. By the way, I think Captain America is great. Daredevil is perfect but a super-villain will ruin his entire perfection. Have fun!

Bob Sheridan, 169 East Carpenter St.
Valley Stream, N. Y.

Thanks a heap! It'll take us a week to digest all your comments—another week to argue among ourselves about them—and by then we'll have forgotten what we're arguing about! Wotta life!

Dear Stan an Jack,

Never having heard of Captain America until you guys brought him back, naturally I can't say I was breathlessly waiting for his return ever since the forties, but I can say now that I have seen him—wow! What a guy! The way he came back in issue: #4 of the Avengers was great—and in #5 he was good too. His brief appearance with the other Avengers in issues #25 and 26 of FF was well done. The rest of them are great, too. Stop changing Iron Man's headpiece. I liked it the way he used to have it. Sheesh! Whatta bunch!!

Bill McCord, 2136 Glenwood
Toledo, Ohio

You don't think we change Iron Man's headpiece, Bill? Tsk tsk! Next, you'll be accusing us of making up all these stories!

Dear Stan and Jack,

Rick Jones always said to Bruce Banner that he would never leave him no matter what. So what does he do? He teams up with Captain America. It was all Rick‘s fault that Bruce Banner became the Hulk. Rick Jones is a traitor—he should be hung from a tree. I'm also getting tired of always seeing Sub-Mariner. He is either in the AVENGERS or FF. No matter how powerful the super heroes are he never gets defeated. Something always happens and he gets away. I think that Sub-Mariner should get defeated once and for all.

David Calise, 818 Sunny Side Ave.
Chester, Pa.

Boy! What side of the bed did you wake up on this morning, Davey?? Keep talking that way and Rick and Sub-Mariner may expel you from their fan clubs! Anyway, let’s wait and see if our other two or three readers agree with you!

Dear Stan and Jack,

Avengers#5—Invasion of the Lava Men—was the best yet! (Except maybe for the issue where Captain America joined up with the Avengers). Here are my predictions of things to come in the next 12 months: there will be an Avenger's Annual, Spider-Man will join the Avengers, the letters page will be converted to two pages, Captain America will get his own mag, and Avengers will have another with Sub-Mariner. If any of these things do happen, I'll be eating peaches and ice cream!

Bob Spann, 507 Meadow Lane
Murray, Ky.

At least one of your predictions will come true, Bobby! Now all you've got to do is predict which one it is!

Dear Stan and Jack,

Love those new mastheads on THOR and IRON MAN—hurray for the change on STRANGE TALES and TALES TO ASTONISH! I loved AVENGERS #5! The cover with that dark background was nice and the story perfect—as usual. Put the Avengers out monthly. Drop the Hulk from membership completely and from your cover symbol. Don't give Rick Jones a costume even if he is Cap's pal. Let Cap have more action in the Avengers. Give us an AVENGERS ANNUAL. What are the chances of Captain America getting his own book soon???

Bobby Rollins, P.O. Box 328
Vivian, La.

Boy! You're one joker who knows what he wants, Robert! Anyway, Cap has earned himself a new strip, as co-feature in Tales of Suspense! (Or do we call it Iron Man now? Sure is hard to keep track of our hysterical changes! Sometimes we change a change before the change has been completely changed, and then—aww, skip it!)

Giant Man and Wasp have a two seater chair at the table for Avengers meetings?

"I’ll bet he’s not bad looking under all that silly head gear he’s wearing." Ugh.

I hate the Teen Brigade with a passion.

Thomas, the Wasp is just a crazy girl!

Whazthat, soldiers can't hear a bunch of teenagers moving and talking in the bushes behind them, that's the top american army? Sure not.

Teen Brigade: "Hey, let's approach Kang running and shouting like nut's, he won't notice us."

Stan Lee really should have kept a list of all his characters and their full names next to him as he wrote, because now he's calling Rick Jones, Rick Brown! Who's next?

It was neat to see a return of the old Rama-Tut guy, but you'd think he would find bragging about atomic power a little ... 20th century, eh?

At least Kang is a formidable foe, much better than Space Phantom.

The British ambassador responding by saying "righto!". That's just rich XD

Decent issue overall, I like seeing all of the heroes work together. The teen brigade continue to give me cancer, but that's nothing new.

I liked Kang in this issue, even if as a whole it was average. He seems to be a formidable foe, and since I'm approaching this series fresh, I don't know how often he's going to show up in the future, but I would definitely like to see more battles against him. I'm getting mighty sick of the Teen Brigade and wish they'd stop showing up. Nobody likes them, Stan. Give it up already.

I'm really wondering who is checking to be sure character names are correct since this is starting to happen rather frequently.

Bets on when we'll see Wasp as chairman?

Great issue but the Teen Brigade can go die in a fire.

Once again make sure Thor of all people is in charge of any electronics during our important meeting.

I know Blake is American, but it still strikes me wrong when Thor says "our national security".

The way the Wasp is written is depressing, but the Teen Brigade is easily the hardest thing to bear.
