A frustrating story in which nothing makes sense. Trying to impost logic on the events is futile. A badly-constructed mess, which seems to have open contempt for the reader. 2/10

Phenomenal art coupled with a far out, crazy good story equals to an awesome, 4 star issue of SHIELD.

Good story, great art. Pretty much expected for Steranko-era SHIELD.

I wish I could say Steranko does it again, but some of the inking here leaves a bit to be desired. The Steranko magic is here, the ground-breaking panel layouts and the killer splash page, nods to Warhol and psychedelia outweigh the flaws, for sure. The writing was okay, but... the word count is quite well done. So I am kind of torn on this book. The artistic IDEAS are sound and innovative, the execution could definitely be better. The story is an ok idea, but not really very compelling. (4)

I thought my issue was missing pages. I would love to see how Scorpio got Fury into Shield HQ. It was a beautiful mess at least.

4 stars for the return of Hank Scorpio!!!

Cover Me - Hey look, She-Hulk is on the cover!

Gashouse Gorillas - You know Fury's tough for playin' stickball as a kid on Yancy St. Especially since he was a member of a rival gang!!

Splash - Great shot of all the camera equipment!

Irksome - Such a great name befitting of a Senator!

The Key - Poor Pickman, we hardly knew ye! Also, Val sure took a long time before taking that shot...

'Nuff Said - "Mebbe if I use the shaft, it'll show me what's safe an' what ain't!"-Fondlin' Fury

What a strange issue. Trippy artwork, but the plot was an absolute mess. We meet Pickman, and for what? I have to believe he was introduced to be more than a human shield, but if this is Steranko's last issue, I guess we'll never know.

I'm also afraid we'll never REALLY learn Steranko's original intent on Scorpion's identity. He drops a lot of hints that Scorpion is a SHIELD agent. He knows too much about Fury, LMDs, SHIELD personnel, policies and procedures, etc.

I loved the colorful, swirly reveal of Scorpion's. That was a cool series of panels.

I still think it's weird that Val is basically Fury's concubine.

Wrong villain. ;-)

Wow, Steranko went full-blown psychedelic on this one. His layouts on a lot of the pages were nothing less than incredible, even by his standards. The swirling effect of Fury's car crash, the newspaper splash page, and the dizzying detail of the 2-page layout, some of his artwork is hypnotic. It's a far cry from the slightly rougher feel of the Steranko-Tartaglione team that did X-Men #50-51.

There'll bound to be some questions about Pickman and who he is. If his involvement isn't supposed to be known by SHIELD, and of course, how the heck he got into the testing in the first place. How will Val take shooting him, even by accident?

A 3-star story, bumped up to 4 for the visuals. Steranko leaves SHIELD on a high note.

Speaking of Nick and Val, I thought that last panel on page 2 was about as suggestive, if not more so, than the replaced panels from issue #2.

I really liked this issue. The art was excellent, and the story and action were fluid and exciting without needing to explain every little detail. I also really liked the LMD 13 costume.

The only thing that irked me was the resolution to the Pickman story. I didn't really need to know who he was, or what Fury had asked him to do. I was okay with him sacrificing himself to save Nick. I just though it fell flat, and the fault may just fall squarely on the second panel of page 19. While this panel is supposed to show Pickman running/jumping/rushing/other-action-wording his way to shield Fury, the flat art makes it look like he just lumbers into the room and Val shoots him. It didn't ruin the story, but it did pull me out of the issue for a second

Trippy, confusing, rushed in the end...I don't really know what I have to think about this one...

The Art was TOP, wow what a ride, as mentioned: Incredible, so ahead of his time

The Story, was so confusing and seemed as if it was seewn together from random editorial Ideas für Nick Fury Stories, and it did not even stick together in the end...it drifted apart again and left us even more with scratching our heads...
