Very enjoyable story, well told. In these few pages we get an important overview of the Mutant Menace as it stands at the very start of the saga of the X-Men and we get a nice character study of Charles Xavier as he decides to step out into the world for the first time and contact mutants. Enjoyable. 9/10

2 stars for the start of X-Men origins!

Timeline - This story starts in the mid 60's...even though the X-Men have been around since 63'!!!

'Nuff Said - "Surely, we've nothing to fear from an invalid!"-Bill, FBI Agent

This origin story was okay at best. Nothing to write home about.

Did it really take Xavier about 10 years to get over Cain being turned into the Juggernaut? He's not exactly a great loss.

Okay this actually wasn't half-bad. I liked the "This Is Your F.B.I."-style opening, and at least appreciated that Roy Thomas decided to wrap up the Fred Duncan plot thread with this origin story.

What I'd REALLY like to know though, is how extensive WAS the government surveillance program back in the 60s? They captured some amazing footage of a young Cyclops in action... From multiple camera angles even!

I liked how Xavier just waltzed right in to the government building. It sort of reminded me of the similar movie scene from "X-Men: Apocalypse" where Xavier goes to visit Moira.

This series is at least starting off with some potential. Ironic how Stan always said he created the X-Men as mutants so he wouldn't have to write any origin stories for them; they were born with their powers and that's it! But here we are: X-Men origins. There must be more to the mutants, obviously, because the Comics Code Authority probably wouldn't let readers in the delivery room!

Aside from that, we see the Professor already being a jerkwad for manipulating minds with his powers. If I were there and able to think of my own free will, I'd already be considering him the type of menace the government needs to protect the public from.
