Black Panther returns home. Action-driven story, with strong undercurrents of guilt and regret. All the accusations, and the violence, keep the tone grim. 6/10

The Black Panther getting his own solo book! I like the premise of this story, but unfortunately it could have used more time/pages to settle the story.

RBickler and Janson make a very good team. Buckler is good with the layouts and panel sequence, while Janson's inks more than compensate for Buckler's deficinecies as an illustrator.

Another arc I've heard great things about but never read. It deserves the accolades so far, but I hope the story soon takes over the entire book.

With a name like "Jungle Action", I came in expecting the worse... consider my pleasantly surprised. That was very enjoyable. After a bit of research, I see that some consider this the first real "graphic novel". Color me interested.

Excellent story building upon T'Challa's concerns throughout the Avengers. Excellent beginning to this arc.

Why the heck would someone name their jungle cat (a predator) Preyy?! You can't expect much from him after that.
I always hate when they show eyes and skin around them in on the mask. Just looks wrong, always looks better with the pure white eyes as a contrast to the black suit.
Have high hopes for this story...especially since we're stuck with it for the next 12 issues whether it's good or not.

Great art, great characterization, great tension in the plot. Slightly goofy villain, but the backing premise is solid.

This arc had already been alluded to by a few issues in the Order prior to this. I was looking forward to a solo Black Panther series, and it's pretty good right out of the gate. I almost kinda want to belt W'Kabi across the chops for his insolence and disrespect to T'Challa, but the thing is, he's right about the Panther's absence from Wakanda. However, I really hope he isn't revealed as one of Killmonger's agents.

Quick history lesson: Jungle Action had started as an Atlas-era book in 1954 and ran 6 issues. The title was revived in 1972 as a reprint series, focusing on Atlas stories in the first 4 issues. Issue #5 reprinted Avengers #62 which was a Panther-centric story, clearly to whet our appetites for this new series!

I like Killmonger as a villain so far, but I'd like to know his prior connection to T'Challa. And yeah, it might appeal to his sense of irony to name his killer leopard "Preyy."

4 stars. Very promising start to the arc. I also hope it becomes full-length before too long, as long as the quality stays up there.

I can't say much of the villain's name, but he was otherwise quite a lot better than I expected. Here's hoping it continues!

Maybe they intend you to understand it as the verb form of prey.

Maybe the intent is to illustrate that the owner is above the cat in the food chain.

I do this with some hindsight cloudiness since I am in 1985 now and only reading this as it is on MU as of today, but this issue feels a good deal better than the average early 70's fare (as far as I remember). It's no surprise to me that it is remembered fondly. A solid 4 imho.
