Nothing very original here, but it is very, very enjoyable as our hero goes into action for the first time in centuries, to avenge the man who found him. Love the John Buscema art. 9/10

Another mindless monster that just stumbles around and always manages to kill just the right person.

I swear I thought this was the golem thing from IT... Stupid creation, but at least the story was much better than the IT ones.

I also thought from the cover it was going to be IT, but instead it's a nearly beat-for-beat retelling of the Zombie's origin. Just replace a voodoo cult and their magic with generic Arabs and Kabbalah alchemy, add a splash of coloured inks, and you're good to go. That being said, I liked it, moreso than the Zombie version. The characters are more like-able and relate-able, the monster is more menacing, and I like the lore behind it.

  Looks at cover....

goes read the next IT story....

comes back and realizes its a different mindless monster in a different comic.

Next time I'll make sure to read the title.

1974 is really attack of the clones, but I guess there was a demand at the time?

Considering the editorial message about the Golem (pg. 13 if you missed it), it was more of Marvel's attempts at diversity, this time creating a Jewish "hero." But making it a mindless monster that's essentially a carbon-copy of It, the Living Colossus? I'm not sure if it's anti-Semitic or just satire, or something in-between.

It wasn't half-bad though. The Golem beats on some morally bankrupt Arab soldiers and calls it a day. Problem is, there are way too many parallels to It. Was there a popular movie about mindless monsters released in the 1970s that I missed somewhere?

2 stars, and a shout-out to our fellow reader and commenter, @GroovyGolem.

You know, when I see a statue that's walking around and killing people, my first assumption wouldn't be that it's secretly my uncle.

This is based on an ancient Jewish folk story. Also there is a movie from the late teens early 20s that this story was also used in. The movie is also named the golem and it is silent. Still this sucked imo.
