#20 finds Spider-Man and Black Panther fighting dinosaurs in Times Square! It's a fun story, with lots and lots of action. The inclusion of Mary Jane Watson as a damsel in distress is kinda pointless, though. 6/10

Issue Synopsis

This issue picks up directly from the end of Marvel Team-Up #19. Spider-Man is clinging to the underside of a huge flying platform called ďthe ArkĒ. This platform is being used by a dinosaur-man called Stegron to transport a herd of dinosaurs from the Savage Land to New York as a first step to taking over the World.

As the Ark nears New York, Spider-Man climbs aboard. He gets into a big fight with Stegron, but gets the worst of the deal and is thrown overboard, falling down into the ocean.

Several minutes earlier, at Avengersí Mansion: Jarvis informs the Black Panther that a huge vessel has been spotted coming in fast and low off the East Coast. TíChalla climbs into the quinjet and goes to investigate.

The Black Panther reaches the Ark just in time to see Spider-Man plummeting towards the ocean. By performing an impressive acrobatic manoeuvre which involves hanging upside down beneath the quinjet, TíChalla rescues Spider-Man and pulls him up into the craft.

Spider-Man explains the situation to the Black Panther and together they go to see Dr. Connors. The scientist agrees to try to create an antidote for the serum that turned Dr. Stegron into a dinosaur-man. Spider-Man asks that he and the Black Panther be allowed to make use of Connorsí lab to make preparations for their battle with Stegron.

Meanwhile, Stegron has landed and launched his quest for World domination in Central Park, where his herd of dinosaurs is terrorising everyone they come across.

With the help of the Black Panther, Spider-Man has been able to create some new, super-strong web fluid. The fluid is still unstable, but they donít have time to perfect it further because an announcement comes over the radio about dinosaurs lumbering towards Times Square.

The heroes arrive at Times Square to see Stegron and his dinosaurs creating total havoc. Spider-Man does what he can to bring the dinosaurs under control, while the Black Panther goes after Stegron.

A few blocks away from the battle, Mary Jane Watson enters the offices of the Daily Bugle looking for Peter Parker. Joe Robertson explains that he hasnít seen Peter, but Jameson enters, saying that there are reports of Spider-Man and the Black Panther battling dinosaurs on Broadway. Concluding that wherever Spider-Man is, Peter Parker will be nearby taking photographs, Mary Jane sets off for Broadway.

When Mary Jane reaches Broadway, the battle is still raging. She tricks her way through the police cordon and almost gets flattened by a struggling dinosaur. Spider-Man pulls her to safety in the nick of time and gives her a stern reprimand, telling her to stay out of the way.

As Spider-Man and the Black Panther face Stegron, Dr. Connors appears and tells the dinosaur-man that there is no cure for what he has done to himself. Stegron lashes out at Connors and then summons a pterodactyl. Leaping onto the flying dinosaurís back, Stegron tries to make his getaway. However, Spider-Man latches onto the pterodactyl with his webbing, and climbs up onto the beast as it flies out over the docks towards the sea. A punch from Spider-Man knocks Stegron from the back of the pterodactyl and sends him plunging down into the water. Unfortunately for Stegron, he realises that he canít swim. He struggles for a moment and then sinks below the surface.

Connors and the Black Panther find Spider-Man sitting on the dockside feeling miserable because he was unable to save Stegronís life.

So... What happened to all the dinosaurs at the end? Did they make Central Park tried home?

Did Mary Jane seriously get past a cop with the ol' "look over there" trick? Though honestly the cops shouldn't even be there. Seriously, if you want to go running into the middle of a dinosaur fight, then you gets what you gets.
They laid the webbing disclaimer on a little thick, don't you think? Yes we get it, it's unstable so when you don't use it in the future when you obviously need it, you have your excuse.

Mary Jane was the best part of this issue. I'm concerned by the fact that Stegron has more appearances after this one.

I really hope the "one line title/cool idea, go make an issue out of it" editorial direction dies soon, because the execution seems to fail every single time.

This was bad. Love the series commitment to double splash pages though.

"Dinosaurs on Broadway." It could've been worse; the public probably isn't ready for "Killer Dinosaurs, the Musical" just yet.

I classify this one as one of those "So bad it's good" issues. Way too out there for a Spidey story, though he and the Panther actually made a decent team. But yeah, whatever did happen to those dinosaurs once their leader was dispatched? Did SHIELD have them flown back to the Savage Land on that arc? Or maybe the local pet shelter now has some very large animals now looking for good forever homes; are you looking to adopt?

The issue did have two pluses though: that two-page splash was pretty awesome, even if the concept sucked. I also got a big kick out of Spider-Man ripping Mary Jane a new one for breaking the police line. She looked like she needed clean undies after that little encounter, poor girl.

2 stars.

Hang on, I thought someone was backing Stegron. He very clearly said "they" had told him where the Ark would be.
Don't tell me there's going to be further follow up to this bloody mess.
