Issue Review

Iron Fist's origin is one of my favourites.
Just read it for first time in years.
Flashbacks make epic, lonely story.
But even without the flashbacks this is an interesting tale and a great way to pique curiosity about the character.

this was realy good! one of the best origin storys in a loooong time. (since spiderman and DD IMO)

That was a great origin story. Even Roy Thomas irritating second person narration couldn't tamper its greatness!

Wow best origin story in a long time.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. I never knew Iron Fist was a character until I came back to comics.

This is one of the saddest origin stories I have ever read, but Iron Fist is a great superhero!

A solid first issue. It is not often that an origin/first story ends on a cliffhanger. I am indeed intrigued.

Tremendous and tragic origin. Poor kid... I hope revenge comes at some point.

Okay, so I hope they had a good shrink for Danny in K'un Lun, because that kind of stuff will break a kid. Have to admit though, as heroic as Heather's sacrifice was, I really don't understand why she made it. She ran for the bridge saying that maybe the wolves wouldn't cross it, and then when she's halfway across and they haven't followed, she turns around, jumps off the bridge, and basically offers herself to them. Not even fighting to maybe give her son a better chance at escape, but just accepts she's gonna get eaten.
Not sure about that choice between immortality and death. There has to be some kind of hitch, right?

More blood in this issue than I can remember seeing in a color comic before this. And I agree with everyone else, this is a great origin story. Though I kinda liked Luke Cage's more...

I had heard the name Iron Fist several times before, so I was looking forward to this. I didn't find it much different or better than Shang-Chi. But we'll see what happens to both in the order.

I loved this story, but one thing doesn't make sense to me: After killing Wendell, why would Harold declare "there is no more Meachum & Rand - only Rand, Inc."? Why would he name the company he just took control of after the guy he murdered instead of himself?

In regards to my above comment, they appear to admit a mistake in the letters page of MP 17.

  - Gil Kane bringing the pain, with Dick Giordano toning down some of his excess
- Dad bouncing off the cliff is pretty brutal
- "Husband-less woman" why choose that over widow?
- Not bad ...was expecting a lot less

I have to admit I was pretty impressed with this origin story. I had no idea so much tragedy surrounded Iron Fist; he's a compelling character right out of the gate. There's still quite a bit to explain about him and his surroundings, but so far they've done quite a good job.

And they sure did some stuff here I didn't expect. Wendell hitting the cliff in a splash of red was easily the goriest thing I've seen Marvel do in a CCA-stamped book so far. And quite a poignant scene with Danny holding his dead mother's bloody hand, too. Boundaries keep getting pushed back as we advance through the Order.

4 stars. Quite a start to one of Marvel's best-kept secrets up until recently.

I can't say that Meachum being evil was a surprise, but wow, didn't expect those deaths to be quite so gruesome! Although anyone else thinking of Scar and Mufasa when Wendell died?

Wow, that origin was way more impactful than the one in Netflix. Dark stuff, really good!
