Issue Review

'Strange' does not even begin to describe the compelling Steve Gerber story in this issue.
I love the way Gerber uses the supporting cast and, as of this story, allows Man-Thing to enter the fray for different reasons.
But, yeah, what a strange story...

I'll miss Mayerik's art, but you won't hear any complaints from me about Mike Ploog.

Not to shabby. Man Thing is always a weird read, almost a cross between horror and superhero.

+1 star for the creepy ghost clown.

First off love the title. One thing I've noticed about Man-Thing is that it just tells whatever kind of story they want. He's just an observer. He sometimes helps out people in need, but for the most part he exists outside of the story.
In a world with Thing, Hulk, Spider-Man, etc., how is that brute supposed to be the "World's Strongest Man"?
I find myself interested in creepy clown's story, as weird as it will no doubt be.

That was better than I was expecting based on the cover image.

I quite like the subtle off-ness of the clown ghost. Both from the disembodied spotlight and the extra lanky limbs that seem to have a few too many joints in a couple of panels.

I kept expecting the story to go the EC route and by the end I have no idea where this could go. What a nice feeling. Love how fecund Mike Ploog draws the swamp. Reminds me of Michael Zulli's work on Puma Blues.

Now Playing "Clowny Clown Clown" Crispin Hellion Glover

This one was much much better than I thought it would be. It was absurd with a strong hint of pathos for the suicide of the clown. But the clown's ghost....hoo boy, was he really off his rocker and I loved it. Because of this, listen to "Tears of a Clown" by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles while reading.

3 stars. If living beings that are afraid birn at the Man-Thing's touch, does that mean Tragg "whatever knows nothing becomes even more stupid at the Man-Thing's touch"?

They've gotten really good at the Man-Thing's almost kind of humanness. It's amazing how they can tell almost any sort of story with him and it works.

I love this comic and this character. I never expected it to be this good. And weird definitely works for the Man-Thing.

I gave this one three stars, but it's really 3-and-a-half. Good, sad and spooky story.

Three-and-a-half stars.
