A real what-the-heck-is-going-on-here? story. Hopefully Gerry Conway can pay this off in later issues. Fascinated to find out what exactly Namor is up to? And how it fits into his actions in his own book. If it does. 6/10

The return of The Human Torch's archnemesis: ASBESTOS! This time in the shape of a lovely net, hurled by yours truly, Subby.

Wow, Sue. If you're not interested in the FF stop wearing the uniform! Throwing out mixed signals much?

Ben, Reed & Johnny and a rotating crop of heroines to fill the empty space would be a great way to go. Sue Who?

Sue who, indeed? Say, that is a great idea to have a rotating group of heroines to replace the rather "invisible" Invisible Girl!

Nam or seems a little quick to anger here as well as having incredible patience. Sitting and waiting for Thing to fly over that part of the ocean and then attacking.

Waitwaitwaitwait. Weren't Medusa and Torch off to see the Inhumans for something super important before the snow dudes shot them down? Did they just come back without doing that?

OK, jumped the gun a bit, a few issues later and now I know what it's all about. Makes me wish they really had just forgotten about it, so much stupid.

So, Black Bolt is put on hold so Medusa can become intertwined in a galavanting, cheating love triangle? Seems legit... Oh, and Sue is a cheating hoe.

Sooo...hypnosis? A clone? Lifelike android maybe? And regardless of what's going on with Sue, Subby should be ashamed. Guy saves your life and you pay him back by taking his girl?!

That was terrible. One of the worst issue of Fantastic Four in a long time, IMO. It's really tragic how poorly this title treats Sue.

This seems to treat Subby's solo title as non-canon... almost as if Subby as a character never developed past the early FF issues.

  - Coastal Pennsylvania? Miles of it?

- Oh, is this Lake Erie?

- What happened to Medusa's summons to return to the Inhumans?

- If they're coming from Erie to NYC there was no reason for them to go through Jersey

- There are plenty of lakes in PA, I just can't imagine Namor popping out of Lake Wallenpaupack

- Conway has that rare talent of making everything feel forced and unnatural. Sue leaving Reed because he put their son into a coma, no matter the reasons, should work. That makes sense, but he somehow manages to over-determine it at every step and just make it annoying.

Wow, I do have to give the story this much; this was probably one of the more tense and dramatic yarns I've read. It's as if Gerry was attempting to create an arc on the level of the Death of Gwen Stacy. It certainly had many of those elements.

Then I remembered where this sits in context of the overall Fantastic Four story, and that's where it all falls apart.

As @Xythe says, the trip to the Inhumans' home was completely forgotten here. Sure, they retconned the trip a little later, but it needed to be addressed here and now instead of being shoehorned in later.

And Namor attacking Ben kinda makes his entire argument about honor a moot point. Subby's a jerkwad and wears that badge with honor, even if he denies it from here to doomsday.

But, I'm thinking this could be one of the most ingenious plans Sue's come up with to get some degree of respect from her teammates. Yeah, the story seems to trash her character further by running off with Namor, and the divorce summons is pretty dang brutal, but she does have the rest of the FF's attention, doesn't she? She's in her FF costume to remind them of who she is or was, but she wouldn't be with Namor if she weren't so fed up with her role. I think she's sending some very powerful messages here, deliberate or inadvertent.

For all of Gerry Conway's faults as a writer, and he's got plenty of them I agree, he continues to surprise me with stories that involve intensity of emotion.

3 stars; a 4-star story docked one for its glaring inconsistencies. Even though much of this story is way off, I'm still riveted by this development and like it or not, it should be interesting to see how it's resolved.

I've hated how they've dealt with Sue and Reed's separation since she left, mainly because it's been such a one-sided view of the poor abandoned husband who's so heart-broken over his wife leaving. And now they do this. It wasn't enough to completely ignore every reason Sue had to leave Reed, and there were a few, they had to trash her just that bit more, make him just that bit more of a victim. The only thing positive I can say about this move is that Namor was way nicer to Dorma than Reed pretty much ever has been to Sue, so it's a step up for her.
