A battle and some back-story (for Drax the Destroyer). Quality, yes, but it definitely reads like a 'middle chapter', where there's a lot of running to stand still. 7/10

  Another Captain marvel/Thanos/Starlin masterpiece!

If the end of this issue doesn't prove Rick Jones is a douche, then I don't know what will...

Story was going so well and then "Computer, I'm going to call you Zach, dig?" Uugh!
Nice seeing the Cosmic landscape really take shape, though I think Thor would have been a better choice here rather than Iron Man. Either way, much enjoyment.

This loses a star solely due to Rick Jones.

Rick Jones, overbearing flyspeck. Who knew Thanos was an avid CMRO member?

First page: Okay, so this is supposed to be our heroes trying to keep their balance, but it looks more like they are dancing to a funky beat under the shiny neon disco-ball of god Thanos's head. The lazy head-outline character design for Thanos's god incarnation is still bothering me, as are Captain Marvel's outrageously silly hero poses (Left foot: floor, Right foot: CHUNK! Kick, Right fist: WAP! punch, Left fist: THOK! punch; it's like he's playing disposable minion Twister); but the character design for ISAAC almost makes up for it.

While I'm loving this storyline as a whole, and I'm liking the cosmic stuff in general, I'm disappointed that all of this is so small in scale. Why is Drax from Earth? And why a real estate agent of all things? And for that matter why are Thanos & co. from right here in our solar system? It's boring! You're writing a big space opera Starlin, go all in!

Definitely some crazy dance party on page 1.

So Drax (Art Douglas) was taking his family to see Elvis in Las Vegas... in 1953? Elvis was cutting the first of his acetates in August 1953, so there's no way he'd be playing Vegas by the end of the year.

But time does move differently in the MU, so there's that.

Rick Jones thinks he is Wolverine.

  Russ Says:

So Drax's origin was a bit of a surprise; I thought he was 100% alien instead of a transformed human. But now his connection to Moondragon makes sense, so I guess it's not worth quibbling over. And it doesn't take anything away from the story either.

This story was a slight let-up from the main conflict, but still kept the intensity at a high level. It should be fun to see the assemblage work on Thanos's ego. However, what's the deal about his ego being a hidden weakness? All Marvel villains have huge egos! That's no secret at all! You have to have a huge ego if you're going to face setbacks to your plans of conquest and keep coming back for more. Just ask Dr. Doom!

4 stars. Anyone else think Thanos just should've incinerated Rick Jones on the spot? Or at least give him a cosmic wedgie or something!

One thing I found interesting was Drax and his relationship to Moon Dragon parallels Libra and Mantis. I wonder what brought this theme into play.

Four stars.
