So their weapons disintegrate metal, and they lose because they run from men with guns instead of using their weapons on the guns? Granted the glass jaw that they seem to have still would have been a problem for them, but I'd think the fight should have been at least a little more even.

  Gecko Says:
  2016-03-09 04:41:40
Had to rate it 2 stars, just because it made me laugh

Why is this in the 616 order?

  Drax @ McQueen5150 (original post):

Because a Space Beast shows up 50 years later

  McQueen5150 @ Drax (original post):

Crap!!! How many more of these added stories do we have to look forward to?

  GroovyGolem Says:

A forgotten gem appears in the order. So many things to like about it... Space Beasts, Jeb(!), and magnetism. Plus, some awesome quotes:

Pg2/P7: "Sufferin' cats!!"

Pg3/P3: "So it's WAR!"

Pg3/P5: "MAGNETISM! I can't get through it!"

Pg5/P5: "Work, Earthlings, work!"

Pg5/P7: "Pa! The Space Beasts are comin'!!!"

Pg7/P4: "Your rays may erase our metal, but we're flesh and blood...hear? FLESH AND BLOOD! Ha ha ha!"

And finally... I think the NRA just found its new bumper sticker: "You can disintegrate my truck, but you won't make me stop shooting!"

  Magik_Rune Says:

They never even *tried* to... Aww man, come on.

2 stars for Jeb showing the Space Beasts some good ol' Southern hospitality!!!

Cover Me - Such a great image!!

Street Cred - So, were not mentioning that the Space Beast's leader is named Luther Gorr?!

Dobby - It looks like the Space Beasts conquered a race of House Elves!! (p2p2)

'Nuff Said - "Pa! They're comin'!! The Space Beasts are comin'!!!"-Jeb Jr. (Groovy Golem made it tough to find a good line!)

  GroovyGolem @ Locust75 (original post):

I'm sorry, man! I tried to leave some good ones for you! :-) To wit:

"What a fine monument! To bad it cannot withstand my ray gun! HA HA HA!" - Sarcastic Space Beast

"You found the way to lick the Space Beasts!" - Lascivious Lad

"Look at the size of 'em! They're MONSTERS!" - Green-with-Envy Grunt

  Locust75 @ GroovyGolem (original post):

  hendrica Says:

So mad props to the guy who read about a space beast and actually remembered them from this terrible story from all those years ago. 2 stars just for the horrible stereotypes for the "simple Midwestern folk"

  duncanm Says:
  2016-03-14 21:28:29
Okay, I would say that I hate to be "that" guy, but this was a terrible comic, so I don't mind so much, as such: If the ray gun was used on a human it would disintegrate all of the iron in their body, and as such, they would almost immediately die due to suffocation since iron is a required part of hemoglobin.
Really don't see how this can be 616, even if it's part of the Order. Did everyone just forget about the era when they were enslaved by aliens? And this is coming from someone currently reading the mid-70s books where everyone scoffs still if someone says there are aliens.

  kungfufan @ McQueen5150 (original post):
  2016-03-15 12:54:58
Saw a post in the missed books forum from Jan 4th listing this as one of about 30 stories throughout the 60s that should be included due to "new rules", anyone know what those new rules are?

  J-hat Says:
  2016-03-25 08:54:50
I think with some chin protection on those helmets the story would've been a lot different.

  Redsvetz Says:
  2016-03-25 14:20:52
-"What in the wide, wide world of sports is a goin' here?!"

  Billstar2 Says:
  2016-04-06 18:55:05
Rural folk beat the aliens. Yep!! Stan's idea tank was low again. Or maybe still low.

  Hovis Says:
  2016-04-14 11:03:26
One panel - "The Space Beasts have CONQUERED ALL EARTH"
Two panels later - "Meanwhile, on a rural farm in the mid-west, as yet untouched by the invaders."

  kaste Says:
  2016-04-15 13:34:12
But... where were the Fantastic Four? I am pretty sure Mr. Fantastic would figure out their phony ray guns in a heartbeat. And I am sure if a redneck could knock the out, Ben Grimm AKA The Thing could take them all out by himself...

  Calion @ duncanm (original post):
  2016-05-13 17:51:52
Aliens also invade the Earth, causing worldwide havok, in Incredible Hulk #2. So apparently people have short memories.

  Calion Says:
  2016-05-14 16:40:33
Although I agree, this doesn't belong in 616 without some substantiation.

  Deadpool7850 Says:
  2016-06-28 08:37:03
I highly doubt this should be in 616 order. There was an earlier issue of TtA that features a pre-Guardians of the Galaxy Groot. Issue #13 I believe.

  Vancelot Says:
  2016-08-05 02:18:14
That was a fun little blast back to the early 60s.

  Murphynator42 Says:
  2016-10-16 23:22:50
This was much more fun than it had any right to be, though mostly due to the glorious dialogue, most of which is even more glorious out of context. Innuendos aside, "You can disintegrate my truck, but you won't make me stop shooting!" made me laugh the loudest, purely for its modern context

  marvelcomicslover Says:
  2016-12-02 18:43:29
  Um...but guns are metal..!!!

  Ben Reilly Says:
  2016-12-31 03:52:56
Gave it a 3 for the chuckle...still hard to believe that not a single army in the world hadn't shot at one of them yet to figure out that we can't hurt them. Turns out that a redneck saved the world.

  spb Says:
  2017-01-11 16:25:12
why don't the space beasts just disintegrate the metal on the guns?

2 stars for those sufferin' cats

  Zaktks32 Says:
  2017-02-09 08:05:00
So, in a comic almost 48 years from this one, we get to see a HUGE amount of monsters living underground.

A couple of years later, someone writes somewhere that one of those monsters, even when not quite recognizable but mostly a spot in a crowd, happens to be a Space Beast.

And that's why we are reading this here.

  Nenriel Says:
  2017-02-13 23:46:57
Sufferin' cats, indeed. Glad that we covered the rich history of the ever important space beasts. I read the other stories in this one too because I hate myself. "The Clock" was actually a sweet little story. The rest...well kids, just remember, don't play mean practical jokes or you'll get blown up and go to hell.

  trawlerman Says:
  2017-03-21 13:37:02
Those were some mean practical jokes. The punchline to that story was the highlight of this issue!

  noahsell Says:

I actually enjoyed this story. I like these Atlas type tales and can overlook their flaws in favor of a fun story

  SamScrolls Says:

2/5. Advanced Space Beasts defeated by good ole American work ethic.

  mvaughn16 Says:

I probably wouldn't have rated this so high if Seanbaby hadn't parodied this story on Cracked.

Nice to see that the news was also getting worse each day in 1961. Amazing how long it has kept up that streak.

  jennychan Says:
  2018-01-11 13:40:49
Really wish this was not included. This is a cool Atlas tale but does not feel like post-FF. Where were they to help defend the earth?

  stiffmeyster Says:

Thanks Odin this issue was just 7 pages.

  chrisWhite Says:

This is a fun story! All I could think of is the Beverly Hillbillies for some reason.
