Good stuff. A bit closer to standard superhero fare than usual. But still superior nonetheless. 8/10

This was the best Man-Thing story I've read so far.

C'mon, Steve simply didn't know what to do with F.A.Schist and developed this "Fountain Of Youth" thing.

Whatever, he could have better worked the Man Thing's brief almost humanity with an identity crisis or something like this. Ted Sallis being, briefly, conscious of his state. It worked pretty well on Adventure Into Fear #13.

Would have liked more on Man Things transformation

What do you get when a fascist arsehole drinks from the fountain of youth?

This issue of the Man-Thing.

Get it? F.A.Schist? Puns? Anyone?

I'm not sure I buy those guys giving up at the end. Schist is dead, there's no reason not to continue.

Ah, so it was the great stress of their fear that killed the conquistadors last issue. Good job filling that plot hole.
A fitting end for old FASchist. Doomed by his own greed. Couldn't have happened to a better guy.
@j52y I believe what the Fathers were saying was that if they were to proceed, while they may have been restored Swampy would have turned back into a man who would have had the same corrupted heart as all others. In order to deal with him that corruption, in the form of anger/hate/violence, would spread to themselves and thus they would have lost their paradise anyways. As for why THIS group was able to live there...I would theorize that they were soldiers, sick of the violence and pain of the world. Also they are probably what is left of a much larger group, as the others would have destroyed themselves over time.

Page 5 panel 4 Mike Ploog has drawn a***that the man -thing is walking into. Then he did it again on page 10 panel 4! Why are you so naughty, Ploog?

I thought this was pretty good. Schist and his company geta suitable wrap-up to that particular running subplot, and we almost get to see Man-Thing possibly become Ted Sallis again. I agree with everyone else; they should've kept him in a near-transformed state with Ted's basic intellect working; it could've made for some interesting stories and a bit of character development. Such a missed opportunity here.

And the ending, where the residents of that paradise refused to pick up their experiment on the Man-Thing, was a cop-out. It would've been better to start over and see it through to the end. Then again, this is the era where creators were afraid to mess with the status quo.

3 stars.

The ending did feel like a cop out, but anything else would have pretty much ended the series. You can't actually turn him back to Ted Sallis, the series is called Man-Thing. And giving the Man-Thing a personality and intelligence would limit the weirdness of the situations they could put him in, I think. They just could have probably had him smash the equipment so there wasn't another option but to let the Man-Thing wander off, or something along those lines.

Three stars for the story and another for the absolutely Eisneresque art.

Four stars.
