Solid self-contained story, with good character moments for pretty much the entire cast. Nice twist at the end. Black Panther and Captain America are thinking of leaving, and Vision/Scarlet Witch and Mantis/Swordsman are having romantic troubles. Steve Englehart gives space to all of this (in several good scenes) and still manages a story that is packed with detail. Nice. 7/10

It has been a while since I last disliked an Avengers issue, but this one was all over the place. Rushed storyline, misplaced rhythm changes and to top it all, lazy writings which doesn't even try to explain how the villain team-up came to be.

Do we really need another pathetic triangle?
Can Mantis stop saying "this one"? It's annoying like hell.

Extra star for Vision telling Wanda "Let's postpone this discussion until that mood passes." Hahah....he's so dead.

I probably enjoyed this more than I usually would, might be something to do with the 20 strong run of Vampire and Werewolf issues I've just endured.

Minus a star for Cap acting like a Nancy-Boy.

I had thought that Wanda had grown up some, but she is apparently still the same emotionally unstable girl she was when she followed Magneto. Too bad.

Englehart seems to be losing his magic?

Naming the racist country after Kipling is rather inspired

I know I read the stories they are referencing but I have no memory of them

Three and a half pages into the comic before anyone actually says anything. It seems like this writer thinks he is a lot more artistic than he is and it sucks.

This felt like a 5 star issue after all those dracula and werewolf by night issues.

Not one of the better Avengers stories of the period. The whole Swordsman/Mantis/Vision/Scarlet Witch conflict is being forced and forced hard. Wanda's out of character more than anything else, too. Kind of reminds me of the Peter/Gwen conflicts in Amazing Spider-Man that were just stretched out for the sake of adding drama to a few issues. Steve Englehart has been authoring some gems here, but this isn't one of them.

The racism toward Black Panther was a little forced, too. I'm a little surprised they got away with this one, but I liked the way the ambassador was revealed. I'm still having a hard time believing Klaw's and Solarr's powers, though.

The last time we saw Cap have an identity crisis in the Avengers, it happened a full two months before his one "retirement" toward the end of his Tales of Suspense run. This newest crisis finally bears out in the pages of his own mag about 150 issues from now in the Order. I've been awaiting Black Panther's story in Jungle Action for some time, and it's just around the corner. Such is the nature of the Order when depicting a shared universe and a lot is happening.

2 stars. If anyone other than Cap talked that way to Thor on page 4, the thunder god would've hammered the guy upside the head into next Thursday.

Doing Cap leaving this way, with the comparison to T'Challa, makes him come across really whiny. Not that I disagree, mind you. He's totally being whiny.
