Brisk-paced story, with a few improbable coincidences propelling the action.
Hard to take it seriously, but - despite the somber events - it's a light read.
4/10

Nice story line, too bad about he Villans name.

I liked it more than I probably should have. It's a silly story but it works because it's well-paced. I also have a soft spot for stories about non-major characters, they help emphasize how rich the Marvel Universe is.

Hmm, why is Angel wearing an old costume?

Even though this is not labeled as a flashback, the whole thing makes more sense if viewed as the untold Angel story from the time when the X-men were separated by the FBI.

Interesting, I like Spencer's theory. Probably had it written then shelved around that time.

That was good. It's interesting to see the darker side of Angel.

After the story finished, all I could think about is that this is a precursor to Angel becoming the Archangel and one of the four Horsemen.

Really cool seeing Jerry Siegal get a writers credit with his real name. Honestly surprised at how much I liked this.

Marvel continuity places this between Uncanny X-Men #46 & 49, during the period where the X-Men were broken up, so Spencer617 was correct. I'd be curious if these were stories meant to run at that time or if it was meant as a flashback. I lean towards the former, as the legal blurb on the first page of the mag says "X-Men reprinted...copyright 1965".
Again though from the second time in 3 issues the artwork was distracting for me. This time not from being terrible per se, but because of such heavy use of primary colours. There was a tiny bit of orange and green thrown in, but for the most part everything was bold red, blue, and yellow.

The Avenging Angle costume is soooo much better.

Ah yes, the Avenging Angle's costume is very nice, but I prefer the Avenging Angel better... :D

2 stars for the Dazzler getting to try out his new BeDazzler!!!

Placement - Much like the Herc story that was in the previous Ka-Zar. It makes you wonder why not add this to one of the X-Men reprints??

Pecker - Dazzler's helmet looks like a recently plucked chicken!!

Gimmick - I didn't see much bouncing on those jet-pogo sticks...

This Is Your FBI - Well, at least it was good to see Fred Duncan again!

'Nuff Said - "Nobody squeals on the Dazzler rat!"-Henchman, calling his boss a rat...

Random place to put an X-Men story, not at all what I would have expected picking up a Ka-Zar mag.

  Russ Says:

This one was a bit out of left field, not just the contents but the placement. As @Locust75 stated, this likely would've been better as a backup story in an issue of X-Men, in reprints at this time.

And I'm with @spencer617 and his theory about this story in X-Men continuity. It's hard to tell if this story was actually completed for use in the X-Men's mag but not used after all, or if it's new for the Ka-Zar book. I do recall they had a different story lined up for X-Men #49 but that was replaced by the story that introduced Lorna Dane, so it's entirely possible. Thing is, if that continuity theory is correct, Warren wasn't showing any emotion over the events of this arc when the X-Men reconvened in #49.

3 stars. Interesting enough start to the arc.

The villain is "probably" not the same person as the '80s superhero.

The Angel has never been a favorite of mine, so I didn't have high hopes going in. And my hopes were not over-passed.

Not terrible. Superman's daddy could still write an action story.

Three stories.

Hmmm... I always find it interesting when my opinion is so different from the other commenters. I really disliked this story. Between the art, the dialogue, and the pacing, it just seemed like an early 60's story. Only the death of WWJr gave this the second star, as that was very unexpeted.

This might all be colored by the fact that I dislike characters who's only power is flight...
