Issue Review

RikerDonegal
   August 2, 2013
The first half, where The Hulk mourns the "death" of his friend Adam Warlock is genuinely sad. Well-written. The second half contains some of that self-important nonsense talk that was a regular part of the Adam Warlock series, but - ignoring all of that - you do get a big ol' battle that nicely brings to an end(?) the saga of Counter-Earth. 8/10

Enough of Warlock's adventure on Counter-Earth. Finally, I'm poised to see what Starlin can do with the character!

"subtle symbolism"? Nothing subtle about the symbolism in this arc. It's like getting hit over the head with the New Testament.

On the thir... Second day he rose again and transcended into the heavens. For very truly I tell you, Adam Warlock will come again to judge the living and the dead. Amen. Now let us break bread and chant the Hulkene Creed.

We believe in one High Evolutionary.
The Father of evolution.
Maker of Counter Earth and Counter Hell.
Of all that is seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord Adam Warlock
the only Son of The High Evolutionary
eternally begotten of the Father,
Evolution from Evolution, Light from Light,
true evolution from true creation.
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation
he came down from the High Evolutionary's Spaceship
by the power of the advanced idea mechanics
he became incarnate from the Virgin Cocoon
and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under The Man Beast
he suffered death and was buried.
On the second day he rose again
in accordance with the Marvel Age of Comics
he ascended into space
and is fighting the injustices of the universe.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

Amen.

Am I going to hell for this comment?

I don't know if it says so explicitly in the law, but I'm pretty sure that once you've learned that the president is a shape-changing alien-beast that fraudulently took office, it's okay for you to not follow his orders.
Man that really ramped the Jesus metaphor to 11, but I haven't seen many people talk about the Devil/Man-Beast allegory. The angel Lucifer (MB) is exiled from heaven by God (High Evolutionary) and so decides to lead the people that He has created into sin. He changes his shape to best appeal to those he is wishing to manipulate, and his power is derived from hate. Of course there's also the little nickname the Devil has of The Beast. To the best of my knowledge Hulk was never in the Bible.

Well, since this followed the Jesus parallel closely enough it made the ending predictable, but I still enjoyed it. That power-up sure whetted my appetite for Warlock's new series by Jim Starlin.

But now, what happens to Counter-Earth? Without a threat there it's not even remotely interesting anymore. But I'm sure someone will figure something out later on.

3 stars. @TheAmazingGatorMan: You're not going to hell. Even worse, you are now consigned to watch more of your minions being slain at the hands of the Man-Thing in that book!

I kind of hope Warlock is a bit less space-Jesusy in his next appearance. If nothing else than because I don't know where they can go with that from here.

I gotta say, that was some subtle symbolism.
