Action-packed tale, set on a cruise ship at sea. Lots of cool ideas here. Love the twist at the end. I also like the little plane that the Human Torch loans Spidey. Sure, it's a bit too handy that Reed Richards has just finished building the thing (LOL) but you can't deny that it's a cool/fun little toy. 7/10

WTF? Where is the Spidey versus Drac throwndown? Talk about your misleading covers. If I was a kid and had spent my allowance on this mag, I'd have been pissssssssed!

You want to vaccinate someone after they've already got the disease? The horse is long gone, better close that barn door quick.

Setting that aside, "I never thought that intentionally delaying my arrival with this potentially life-saving discovery could cause someone to die!" seems to show some flawed decision-making skills.

Man, I thought I was going to see Spider-Man and Dracula go at it. Just another lame bunch of goons.

First, these guys need to research vaccines and what their purposes are. Second, what the Flying Dutchman happened to Spider-Man vs. Dracula!?!? I'm pissed there was no meeting between the two. This was one stupid issue.

This certainly wasn't very good. I liked the ending though.

So about that ending... Spidey and the good doctor are leaving the ship as the sun is rising, and at the same time Dracula has just made it back to his hideout in Europe...which means the sun came up there hours ago and he should be a pile of ashes.
Pretty sure this is the second time that Marvel has cured someone with a vaccine. You would have thought they'd learned the first time.
While there's an obvious guess as to who the guy at the jewelry store at the beginning was, but how did Spidey have a suspicion right away?
Why would Peter not believe that a vampire was responsible for that girl's state? I know he may probably not know about Dracula somehow (seriously how does the world not know about him, he's not subtle) but he knows Morbius is out there.

I called that ending as soon as I saw two people arriving at sick bay when they asked for the ship's doctor. Also, that wasn't very good. Also, Dracula booooooooo.

Only Roy Thomas would approve a story where the twist is the Dr. is really a girl!

  Russ Says:

I agree; pretty disappointing that the only time Spidey and Drac actually meet is one accidental split-second bump. Ugh, lame. And nobody recognized that obvious bite marks on that girl's neck? I guess nobody was wearing thinking caps on that ship.

2 stars; almost gave it a third star for Spidey not wrecking one of Reed's toys, and a flu bug that almost did what many of us wish would've happened a long time ago! Otherwise, a ho-hum and inconsistent story.

  Katryn Says:

That was handled a lot better than I expected. It was utterly predictable that the doctor would be the woman, but I was expecting it to be utterly insulting too and it wasn't. So that's nice.

This issue is the epitome of the early 1970s Marvel. It has everything. Spider-Man trying to save Aunt May. A cruise ship with Dracula, a gangster AND the doctor all three are looking for. And a twist ending that makes no sense.

Yep. Yay 1970s Marvel.

Oh, and dressed like that she wants to keep the gawkers away? Right.

Three stars.
