Brisk pace, epic scale, Thor/Human Torch adventure, with some twists at the end. One of them: very clever. 8/10

It's funny the way Don Blake off-handedly comments "Oh! Apparently the villain doesn't know the secrets of my SECRET identity." Silly.

As the other dude said, lots of holes. I was intrigued as to who those dudes were at the end.

How can Storm survive inside lava in his human state?

I think Johnny surviving in the lava is the least mystifying problem in this story. Johnny is actually immune to fire and heat, and actually absorbs it to make his powers stronger. He doesn't have a "human" state as you're thinking of it, his powers are always on. He has the ability to turn his body into fiery plasma which allows him to fly and become near liquid, however that is just a use of his powers, not the source.
My question, is how the hell heat is supposed to fuse lava?! Lava is rock that got so hot it became liquid. Raising its temperature is only going to make it less viscous.
Also: "The ISLAND of Hawaii?" C'mon guys, that's not even a different country you're having to research.

Len Wein continues to show zero interest in the actual powers of the characters he's writing and just makes them up as he goes along.

Hawaii is also the name of the largest Hawaiian island.

Len Wen, early 60's edition. Entertaining in very small doses.

Stop explaining what the art is making explicit!!!! (My god, he’s typing a complaint as if a 40+ year old comic book could respond!)

Motto’s death was kind of affecting (He points out something positive and it is about Molto’s death)

For a Human Torch led issue this was not bad (It is given a solid meh as a review)

Recommended listening for this issue: "The Fire Down Below" by Bob Seger. Watch 'em come and watch 'em go!

Some violations of natural laws aside, this was pretty fun as well. It was one of the few times Thor and the Torch would work well together just the two of them, but it didn't go badly here. I'd use @dadoodoflow's assessment and give it a "solid meh." (My friend, I think you're on to something! I'm so using that rating in the future if you don't mind)

From the Stan Lee School of Science and Physics, Professor Len Wein lecturing: today we shall learn how heat can fuse rock into a solid. While we're at it, we'll use that same heat to make ice cubes and have a refreshing drink during class; it's hot in that volcano! However, Mauna Loa is indeed the second tallest volcano on the island of Hawaii, the largest island in the Hawaiian Island chain. Good thing I missed Professor Wein's geography class!

One last note: I can see Blake scrambling up the side of the machinery for his walking stick on a bad leg. Thor in his human state has been lame-footed for so long he's probably able to gauge his body's limitations and knows how to push past them for really short periods of time. You see athletes do it all the time. By the way, this is probably the one time the hammer's magic actually worked the way it's supposed to. It changed him back after one minute, rather than the Marvel Minute that lasts up to a couple of hours or so that we've seen in the past.

3 stars. I still think we're overdue for a war for dominion of the underground societies. Between Mole Man, Tyrannus and all these Lava guys it's getting pretty crowded down there.

Why does Thor ever bother to make plans as Don Blake? He surely has to bail on them far more often than not.
